The drive to Airey's Inlet was quite enjoyable with some stunning coastline to gawk at.  Since our trip was in early August the weather was gray and cool.  When I got my first glimpse of the lighthouse from the highway I couldnt help my jaw from hitting the floor.  It was gorgeous!  The light is perched on a cliff with trails to some lovely look outs.  The veiws were stunning.  Split Point Station was originally called Eagles Nest Point and was built in 1891.  It was taken over by the Common Wealth Government in 1919 and was then automated.  The lighthouse is 34 meters high and flashes a group signal of 4 every 20 seconds.  Click here to view the Plaque .   The original keepers cottages are for rent if you are so inclined.  The setting of this light was one of my favorites and I highly recomend a visit.  I believe the lighthouse is opened for tours during the summer season.  Also recomended is a drive down the Great Ocean Road.  Absolutly Stunning!
