Old Point Loma Lighthouse is located in Cabrillo National Park, San Diego, California.  The Lighthouse is open and you can walk inside and get a glimpse of what it was like to live in such quarters.  At the top of the stairs is the 5 foot ,3rd order fresnel lens ordered from France.  The lighthouse was finished in 1854  and was lit the following year and was visiable 25 miles out to sea.  The lighthuose welcomed saliors into San Diego for the next 36 years.  Fog and low clouds often obscured the light.
On March 23, 1891 the keeper extinguisted the light for the last time..He boarded up the house and moved his family and bvelonging to the New Point Loma lighthouse atthe bottom of the hill.  Today you can see the New Point Loma Lighthouse from the whale overlook 100 yards south of Old Point Loma.
