Battery Point was first lit on December 10th 1856.  Today it is the 5th oldest lighthouse on the west coast.  Automation came in 1953 and in 1965 the light was decomissioned. Crescent City is a lovely setting for this lighthouse. The surrounding beaches are beautiful. There is a museum inside the light you can visit also walk right up to the lamp.  The Keepers  living at thelighthouse make you feel very welcomed.  During the winter they are cut off from the mainland for months at a time.  You can walk out to the light during low tide.  During your walk you can stop and look through the tide pools along the path.
The drive up to Crescent City along Highway 101 is beautiful with old growth Giant Redwoods.  This lighthouse a must see for everyone!
