Weir, Chancy clk -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Kemp was born @ 1796 in New Bern, Craven Co. NC. He married Anna Roe on April 26th 1814 and his bondsman were John Kemp (Himself?? or father??) and Jeremiah Roe. John and Anna did not show up on the Census for Craven Co in 1820 according to Anna's pension application they were married at his/her father's house about six miles north of Newman NC in the county of Craven. Serveral people have studied this writting and come up with different opions of what is written. Newman most likely means New Bern but the his or her fathers is still undecieded. I guess everyone will have to judge for themself. Most likely in 1820 they were in the household of either her fathers or his fathers. They show up on the 1830 census with 1 male 5-10 and two 10-15 and ifemale 5-10 and 1 10-15. In 1840 John Kemp and Anna are in Clarke Co. MS. Begining in 1835 on the Clarke Co. Tax Rolls was a John Kemp. He was listed for 1836,37,38,39,40,and 1841. John and Anna had 12 children we think. Redding Kemp born @ 1816 in NC. shows up on the 1843 Tax roll in Clarke Co. (This child has not been proven as a positive son of John and Anna.) No other infromation has been found on him. Susan Ann Kemp Born 4-23-1818 in Craven Co. and died Jan 20, 1895 Pipe Creek Stephens Co. OK. (Have lots of information on this child) Eli Kemp born @1820 in Craven Co. (Have other informataion on Eli and also possible that I have located his wife. Might have died in the war or from wounds due to the war. Source Claim of Widow for service pension. (She futher states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time on hie enlistment ) Age about 19 years, occupation farmer, birth place, Craven County North Carolina, hight about six feet, color of hair black, eyes blue, compelixion fair. John KEMP served as a private under Capt M. Huntington's Co. NC Mil. in the war of 1812. He and Ann both received pensions from this war and he also collected Bounty Land as a result of his service in this War. *According to the IGI the parents of Ann ROE were Johsua ROE and Sarah RIGBEY married 1 Oct 1784 in Craven County, NC The Children are also listed. If you want to use this resource let me know and I will send them to you. I also have this resource. I felt that this was the correct information until I collected more information and them I began to question this. On her application she states that she was married at his/her father's house about six miles north of Newman NC. Three genealogy research experts have read this application and they feel that Newman NC was Newbern NC. Ann was 87 when she was given this information and the clerk most likely misunderstood what she said. Swift Creek was about six miles north of New Bern. They read it to say that she was married at her father's. I still think that it might say his father's as there is a dot above the word his/her. If she was marrried at her father's then she was not the daughter of Joshua and Sarah as they had moved on to Georgia by this time. I also have a marriage for Joshua and Sarah's ROE daughter Ann to a Jesse RIGBY in GA in 1813 Using the Census I have found 13 Children living in the John KEMP household. I really believe that John and Ann were the parents of 12 children. The 13th child was John who was with them on the 1860 Census. I believe that this was a grandson and the son of Carolina KEMP. (More later on this ) THis could be on of REdding or Eli children I also found Redding KEMP on the 1843 Tax Roll. I have not proved that Redding KEMP was a son of John and Ann. The birth place was assumed to be Craven Co. NC as per the 1830 NC census that shows 2 males 10-15. The year was averaged from this information. I also have this information on Redin KEMP. Taken from the Deed Book C Clarke Co.MS. (134) John Robertson & wife, Mary Ann to Redin KEMP; Clark Co., April 17, 1841 $500.00 paid by Redin KEMP for land in Clarke Co., viz: E1/2 of NE1/4 sec. 14, T3 R14E.\(80 44/100a) (signed) John (x) ROBERTSON, Mary (X) Ann ROBERTSON Wit: W.F.GREEN Recorded April 20, 1841. Where did you find his birth year. On the 1830 census John KEMP had 1 male under 5. That would mean that this child would have been in the age of 10-15 on the 1840 census.Only one male is listed in the age which is David that is 18 on the 1850 Census. *Married Robert LOVETT. Listed on 1870 Census Clarke Co. MS in John KEMP household. List 3 LOVETT children also. David LOVETT married Maggie SMITH had at least 6 children. Lucretia LOVETT married Charles E.
