Why Did I Run and Why Did I Stop?
The picture on the bottom left was taken in 1999. The picture on the bottom right was taken in 2004 at the height of my running era. In 2005, I started experiencing pain in my right foot caused by stress fractures in my metatarsils. It was a month after I ran the St. Louis Marathon. I kept running which lead to other injuries like a pulled calf muscle.

It got my thinking about why I ran. I definitely wanted to be healthy. I was taking cholestorol medicine in 1999. I also wanted to look better and feel better. But if running marathons year after year started to take a toll on my body, then the excess exercise was negating the benefits. I might of looked better, but I didn't feel better. I physically hurt. I've heard it said that runners are the healthiest injuried people.

I tried to start running a couple of times after several months of no physical activity, but the pains would come back. My exercise program is now reduced to walking my dog 2-3 days per week. Now, I'm somewhere between the pictures below which is fine with me.
