The Mahoney Natural Soap product is intended for personal cleaning uses such as hands, face, body and hair. It is a liquid soap and is unique from commercial liquid "soaps" because it is not a synthetic detergent.

This liquid soap is the result of the basic saponification of vegetable oils which includes the byproduct, glycerine, a highly valued material for skin care due to its moisturizing properties. Unlike this product, other commercial liquid "soap" products contain either:

                                                sodium lauryl sulfate
                                               sodium laureth sulfate
                                             ammonium lauryl sulfate
                                            ammonium laureth sulfate

The sulfate compounds are all synthetic detergents made from petroleum materials. They were originally developed by German chemists in the early 1900s due to the short supply of vegetable oils during the war in Europe. Large US companies licensed this technology because it was also less expensive to produce.

Synthetic detergents own a large portion of the soap market. One of their primary disadvantages is that they are harsh and irritating to the skin which has created the need for natural alternatives.

Many hand-crafters have made natural soap bars via a method called the cold process, but few have made a natural liquid soap which requires more time, energy and patience. The Mahoney Natural Soap is such a product made with real vegetable oils. The final product moisturizes and tightens the skin. Contact
