January 18 - Empty Lot
We chose the paint colors colors, carpet and vinyl for the house. The whole process took us about 30 minutes total. This is a picture of our empty lot that day. The area behind our house is a nature preserve. Our street was still a dirt road. We were told that construction would not start until March or April and our house was estimated to be done in September.

April 23 - Piles of Dirt
We returned from the Boston Marathon to find large piles of dirt on our lot. The dirt was spread over our lot to give it more height. |

May 7 - Formwork for Foundation
The formwork for the foundation was built. You can see the plumbing pipes in the picture. |
May 15 - Foundation
It only took the subcontractor 1 day to pour and finish the foundation. You can see some of the other home construction in the background. |
May 31 - Concrete Block
The concrete blocks were laid in one day. We had a lot of problems with the blocks being place inappropriately but the builder fixed the problems. You can see they started on the roof trusses also. There is about 15 feet between the houses in our subdivision. That distance also depends on the lot. |
June 6 - Delivery of Lumber
They delivered the lumber for the framing of the house in June. We were told that the house is usually done 90 days from the day the lumber is delivered but that wasn't true in our case. There was a long gap between the time they delivered the lumber and the start of framing the inside of the house. |
July 1 - Framing Begins
The framing was started at the beginning of July but the framing itself wasn't done for a couple of weeks. This is the inside of our house looking into the backyard. |
July 13 - Roof Done
The roof was complete but the framing inside the house is still a work in progress. |
August 15 - Drywall
The framing was complete so the drywall was installed. This is a picture of our eat in kitchen area. Right off the kitchen area is the door to the master bedroom. |
September 10 - House Painted, Vinyl and Cabinets Installed
The house was painted, vinyl installed and cabinets installed in one day. These are some of the kitchen cabinets.
October 1 - Carpet
The carpet was put in today. The real purpose of this picture is to show you what the house looked like on October 1st because in 2 days, it would have plants, trees sprinklers and sod!
October 4 - Plants, Trees, Sprinklers and Sod
They put in the plants, spinklers, sod and all the trees in two days. The yellow and green plants are Croton Gold Dust and the small green ones in front of those are Ilex Schilling. The two trees on the right lawn of the house are laurel oak trees and the tree on the right of the garage is a crape myrtle. Steve is measuring the door in the picture.

October 29 - Closing
My hand is all cramped up from signing my loooooong last name so many times but we finally closed on the house!!! We are just in time to hand out candy on Halloween! We also picked out our paint colors today and made a quick but expensive trip to Home Depot. There will probably be more trips to come!
