Scope and Sequence Paper
In this paper I will explain to you why I choose to do my scope and sequence on “AGSC 334 Equine Science.” I will also give you the reasons as to why I organize the class schedule as I did, and what I hope students will learn from this course.
I chose Equine Science because this is one class that students seem to learn the most information, and have interest in it. The schedule was primarily based on the College Station Independent School District calendar. There were some weeks that were different. In the first six weeks the students will learn about career opportunities in equine science. I am hoping this might inspire some students to enter a career in equine science. The students will also become aware of occupational and workplace safety. They will also learn how to perform in an interview, and skills in the workforce. In the fifth week, students will be able to work on their Supervised Agricultural Experience, or begin to work on their SAE. In the last week they will be able to define responsibilities of horse ownership, and activities. I will also give a six weeks test on that Friday.
In the second six weeks students will be able to identify, evaluate, and select horses. They will learn this by pictures, videos, and also in person. By doing these topics, I assume some students might want to join the horse judging team after this. My students will learn about horse health, feeding management and also nutrition. Students will be able to define the anatomy and psychology of a horse. Once again on the last week the students will have another six weeks test.
In the third six weeks I will have a veterinarian come to speak to the class about horse health. Next, students will learn about equipment and facilities a horse needs in order to be productive and grow. If some students have never been around horses, then they will gain knowledge in how to handle horses. This is for the horse’s safety and their own safety. Another topic that I think the students will enjoy is the procedures for breeding horses. One thing I did at the end of the six weeks is had the students work together on a project. The students are to determine the cost of the horse, land, housing, and maintenance for a one year. This gives students insight into how much it costs to own a horse.
I hope that students will be able to gain some knowledge in equine science and find it useful. I know that this class will probably be mainly girls, since all girls dream of having their own horse one day.
