Lesson Plan Discussion Paper
For this discussion paper I have choose to teach a lesson on Breeding Soundness Examination. I will be teaching this lesson at Bay City High School. The class that will hear my presentation will be the AGSC 231 class. I will discuss with you on how I plan to get the students interested in the lesson, why I choose to teach this lesson, why I choose the EMoments, and how I will know that the students have learned the material.
After talking to Ms. Jurek about the lesson topic that I should teach, I decided to go with Breeding Soundness Examination. The class is starting reproduction in animals, and I wanted to do a topic that I enjoyed. To most students reproduction is hard, and boring. I figure BSE is something that I could keep the students and myself interested in without falling asleep. I choose to conduct two different emoments. The first is Descartes Moment. I use this to get and maintain the student’s attention. Descartes has three questions for the students. What do you know about the topic? What do you think you know? What don’t you know yet? The students are able to answer these questions throughout the lecture. The next emoment I use was Show Me What You Know. This emoment allows you to periodically quiz the students. By stopping a giving a quiz, you as the teacher, are able to see if some students did not understand the subject, and you are able to go back and clear up some misunderstandings. This also aides in keeping the students interested and focus. The evaluation that will tell me if the students have learn is by giving a fill in the blank quiz. Hopefully, you have understood why I choose this lesson topic, emoments, and procedure for testing the student's understanding of Breeding Soundness Examination.
I have some minor concerns about teaching this lesson to high school students. They are just mainly “what if” questions. For example, What if they are not paying attention and doing other work. What if they ask me a question, and I don’t know the answer. By teaching this lesson now it will give me ideas on how to teach it when I do become an agricultural science teacher. The AGSC 231 class at Bay City High School will be my practice class. Once I teach them, I can get feedback on how to improve it better for next time. You have now read on what my lesson plan topic is, how I will keep the students attention, my concerns, and how it will be teaching me for the future classes.
