State of Fear

I just finished a novel that has left me questioning some of my beliefs. It's interesting how a person can totally believe in something  without having any real knowledge on the subject.

Here's a few examples:

Global warming
Silicone Breast Implants
DDT
Managing nature

Here is a quote from the author "I have more respect for people who change their views after acquiring new information than for those who cling to the views they held 30 years ago. The world changes. Ideologues and zealots don't."

I am now certain I don't hace a clue about many things I thought I knew.

Michael Crichton is a brilliant man, not to mention a great author. I read 'Jurassic Park' a year before the movie was released, and was fascinated by the ideas inside it. He presented the cases for and against manipulating nature, and really makes you think. THAT is the sign of a great author.

If you ever get a chance, you should read the book. Don't pre-judge it based on the movie. They really "Spielberged" the book. It's 10 times better than the movie.
