| Chapter Six
Back And march we did. The next morning at eight hundred hours, we were on our way to the place I once called home. The school had been reduced to piles of ruble. And I could still see the two Agents with Jene in the soccer field. I closed my eyes hard as I felt the tears burn the corners. Blake rested his hand on my shoulder and nodded towards the cemetery that was near by. Just remember Petri, he was in the ground before this hap-pened. Hell never know what he caused. Thatll cheer him up Blake! John said sarcastically and for once I agreed with him. Its not his fault. I knew my voice was weak. The Special Force Agents are the ones who did this. Not him. Boys, Dennis turned to us four as he stopped at the base of the hill. Come on, lets go. Theres got to be something up there. Up where? Where was he looking? What was he talking about? There was noth-ing left! Just piles of ruble that I once called a schoolwhat the fuck?! Up on the top of the hill I saw a flash of light. So did every other person that was looking in that direction. There it is. Dennis shouldered his small backpack and started up the cracked pavement. Lets move guys. Who could be up there? Or more likely what? I really didnt want to go up there, but I followed like every other person. But in this place, like it is now, what could possi-bly be causing that strange flash? I tell ya, I dont want to know. Neither did Blake, John, and Joby. Joby shook now. He was visibly shaking. He was the one to tell me about the Ne-oweapons all that time ago. He mentioned it to me one day and it struck up an extensive conversation about them. But then Jene moved in and things ran normally. Or at least what we thought was normal and that was because none of us knew what he was. The light flashed again. It seemed to be coming from the corner of the math building. Or what used to be the corner of the math building. Then it hit me, in an awkward, duh, youre a fucking idiot, kind of way. There was some sort of cover in the cement at the top of the hill there. Right out-side the math buildings doors. A third base; more people?! Dad turned to me. Petri, you and Joby head on up there huh? See whos up there. I nodded a reply and looked at Joby as he swallowed. Silently we walked away from the group. Hey man, Joby sounded scared now. I heard that they made more of them Neoweapons. That Jene was a prototype, but came out so well that they made at least one more and one of a different class. So two Jobe? I questioned and I looked to my left. The old gym building was ruined and I could see the Coke machine. The flash caught my eye again. Snapping to the building, I realized this was probably some sort of trap |
