Chapter Eighteen
Back

I opened my eyes, but shut them tight again. Even the dim light of the room hurt my eyes. Turning my head, I opened them again. Suzie sat at the small table, head in hand, elbow leaning on the table, legs crossed at the knee, asleep.

I was feeling no pain. I didnt know what they had given me, but it was working. Sitting up I felt light headed and dizzy. I tried to move my right shoulder, but couldnt and I looked at it to see a red spot in the white bandages that covered the area and part of my chest.

I grunted slightly as I moved to set my feet on the floor. Suzie jerked awake. Ah, no you dont Petri Burns; you lie back down right now.

I stopped and looked at her, almost in shock. How long have I been asleep?

Asleep?! she laughed. Honey, youve been knocked out for about two weeks from the sedatives Ive been giving you.

What? I stood up, but fell back to the bed. Two weeks?

Thats right. Me and Radar know you Petri. Youre careless. You would have gotten up and not given it time to heal. We thought it best.

I looked to the floor. Now I understood why I felt light headed and dizzy. I was groggy too. You thought it best? I looked back to her.

It must have scared Suzie, the look on my face or in my eyes, something, because she sat back in her chair a bit. We didnt want you going after that Neoweapon Petri. You cant just kill a trained assassin like you think. And those pistols arent going to pro-tect you like you think. Granted they will because they will fire, but that Neoweapon is better then you. Stronger, faster, reflexes are better. You are a sixteen year old child! You cant win against decades of technology.

I can try. I was almost yelling. Dont you think I know this?! But Im not giv-ing up! Im going to have revenge for what they did to Jene! Whether it kills me or not!

Jene was one of them! Suzie slammed her hand on the table. Dont you under-stand that?! The Jene DeVowe you knew was the prototype Neoweapon! A programmed killer. And you want revenge?!

Jene was my friend! I yelled back. I really dont care what he was. He never once tried to hurt me or anybody else. He was kind and quiet! Thats who I plan on gain-ing my revenge for! Not the Neoweapon in which you speak!

Bronze would kill you without even blinking twice! Suzie swiped her arm through the air and took a step towards me. And you know that just as much as I do!

Hes still Human!

Yeah, maybe, he looks Human, but come on Petri, hes not. Hes a Cyborg, with a part of a computer brain. You wouldnt stand a snowballs chance in Hell! And you dont strike me as the suicidal type.

Suicide? that stopped me. That had never accrued to me. A suicide run? It couldnt be, could it? Didnt I stand a chance or were these Neoweapons really as dan-gerous as theyve been said to be?

You heard me! Suzie walked to the door. Think about that for a while, why dont you kid. She opened the door and closed it behind her.

Yeah whatever. I swung my feet back onto the bed and leaned against the wall. I will get him, if its the last thing I do.
