| Chapter Thirteen
Back I�ve always hated any form of harness climbing, which is why, I�m convinced, Dad made me and Blake do it. He hates it too. One time at summer we were rock climb-ing and Blake and I didn�t want to do it. It became a big deal and we had to leave early for not participating in all camp activities. He had said, my Dad that is, that if you can�t get over your fears when you�re young, it�ll get harder as you get older. I looked up. About a hundred feet above us I could see the circle with Joby and John watching us. �How�s it going down there Petri?� Joby�s voice in my ear was louder then I thought it could be. It wasn�t too loud, but I could hear him clearly. �Yeah,� I nodded. �What?� he sounded confused. �You see anything yet?� �Just darkness. Let me ask Blake here. Hey Blake, flashlight.� �Not a problem,� he flipped it into his hand and clicked it on. It lighted up the wall in front of him. Once he had placed his feet against the wall, he turned it down. �Holy fuck!� I looked up. �Can you two see that?� �Kinda,� John yelled down. �What is it?� �It looks kinda like a cavern of some sort. Hold on.� I unclipped my belt and dropped the last ten feet to the cavern floor. It had steel sheet reinforced in places or it was at least in the area under my feet. I pulled a light flare and lit it, throwing it deeper into the cavern. How�d I know it was a cavern? My voice echoed. I was right about the steel reinforcement, but what else was down there I was not equipped for� |
