Craig woke first. He opened his eyes and found himself staring into a mass of blue hair. Onyx�s hair smelt fresh, even though it hadn�t been washed in a few days. Sitting up, he pushed the hair from her eyes and smiled. He knew then he had made the right choice.
After the concert, he had left Onyx headed for home, but shortly after he rounded the corner, he saw an ambulance and a police car fly by. Running back to the corner he saw the cops put Kaiser in cuffs and Onyx and another in the ambulance. He reached the ambulance just in time and climbed on. Onyx was unconscious and he grabbed her hand, telling her it would be okay; that he was there with her.
He knew now he had made his mind up then to leave Kaiser, but didn�t make it official till two days later when he went to see him in jail. His visit wasn�t long. Craig simply told Kaiser it was over. He had gone places Craig had no intensions of following. He returned to the hospital and hadn�t left Onyx�s side with the exception of a few fleeting moments.
Quietly he got down from the small hospital bed and pulled the blanket back over Onyx. He walked to the hall, adjusting his hat and looked out into the hall. It was quiet except for one nurse checking on the patients. Turning back to the room, he walked to the couch.
Onyx had fallen asleep before he�d had the chance to tell her what she�d wanted for so long. Pulling his knees to his chin, Craig sat on the couch and watched. She was his, he knew it. Onyx refused to have a boyfriend unless it was him. Now if only he could tell her when she was awake�
A doctor knocked on the door and entered. �Everything�s all set to go when you are. She will be fine. Her jaw is healing nicely and in a few more days she�ll be her old self again.� he smiled. �Take care of her.�
�I will.� Craig didn�t even know what he had said until the doctor had left the room. Take care of Onyx. Him. That�s what he was going to do. He needed her, had needed her, just didn�t know it. She had been there for him ever since they met and now he could return the favor. He would be there for her. Smiling and his mind made up, he jumped up off the couch to wake Onyx up and take her home.
