Hmmm...weren't we just doing this two years ago?! It doesn't get old! Despite a rash of major injuries and bit of early-season turmoil, the New England Patriots, upon completing their best regular season in team history, including a perfect record at Gillette Stadium and a 14 game winning streak, including key playoff victories in the brutal January cold of Foxboro over co-MVPs Steve McNair and the Tennessee Titans (17-14) and Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts (24-14) for the AFC Championship, earned the right to go to Reliant Stadium in Houston to face the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. In a back-and-forth game, where seemingly the last team to have the ball would win, Tom Brady and the Patriots offense, with 1:08 left, engineered a drive to put the ball in field goal range for Adam Vinatieri. With shades of Super Bowl XXXVI, and with :09 seconds left, the ball is snapped, the hold is made, the kick is up, and...IT'S GOOD! And the New England Patriots are World Champions, for the 2nd time in three years, with a 32-29 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII! Congratulations to the Panthers organization- they proved a more-than-worthy opponent; and congratulations to Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick and staff, and the players of the World Champion New England Patriots! Go Pats! (I HAFTA get a game jersey...or at least another T-shirt! :) |
