I wish I were joking when I say that the best part of Singapore is the 7-11s.
Oddly enough, they were the only reminder I had that I was not still in the States. On the outside, they look just like any old Sev, but inside, they're chock full of rad candy, crazy Hello Kitty paraphernalia and dayglo sodas. Techno music is always on full blast and good luck reading the wrappers. I found a Snickers bar, luckily, but it had almonds in it and it cost me $1.35 (about 80 cents).
Tim told me they don't sell gum in Singapore.
Remember, this is where the kid got caned for tagging cars and this is the island where the stewardess warned us "drug trafficking and possession of firearms is punishable by death in Singapore. Have a nice stay."
You can chew gum, but if you happen to spit it out on the street, they cut out your tongue and feed it to your grandmother in a thick, hearty soup. |
