Geography
Location : South Africa is locatd on the southern tip of Africa.  It lies below the tropics. South Africa is in the temperate zone.
Place : South Africa is covered by a high central tableland called "high veld".  The high veld is surrounded by the Soutpansberg and the Drankensberg mountain ranges.  The low country is called the "low veld".  A veld is uncultivated, open country and usually is grassland.  The high lands are also known as karoos.
Region : The climate of South Africa is very diverse.  In southwest it is Mediterranean and desert climates are in the interior and northwest.  The highland is cool. Along the Natal it is humid and subtropical.  The population is divided into four categories. The blacks, "coloreds" who are of mixed descent, Asians, and whites.
Movement : Major exports that move in and out of South Africa are gold, diamonds, minerals, and machinery or equipment.  Major trading partners are UK, Italy, Japan, United States, and Germany.

Human Environment Interaction :  The people of South Africa use their environment for food in farming.  They also interact with their land by mining. Mining is a major priority because South Africa's major exports are gold platinum and other minerals.
