The Gemini Blue Tuesday Sheet

“A Weekly School-wide Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”

September 23, 2003

English – Mrs. Rezendes:  This week in English we will continue to work on our memoirs.  Students will have the opportunity to work in peer response groups in order to get feedback about whether or not they are meeting the criteria.  In addition, students will take part in a teacher led revision session.  The final draft of the memoir is due on Tuesday, September 30th (red, orange, and yellow classes), or Wednesday, October 1st (green and blue classes).  My policy for major papers is that students get full credit for papers turned in on the due date; students lose an automatic ten points for papers that come in a day late; any paper turned in after that does not receive any credit.

** If you are writing your memoir on the computer but are unable to print at home, you may bring the disk in to print it at school.  However, if you are planning on printing at school, you must also e-mail a copy of your paper to me at [email protected].  There are too many times that students come in and realize they did not actually save it to the disk or they accidentally break the disk on the way to school.  By e-mailing the paper to me, I can still give a student full credit for completing the assignment on time.

Geography – Mr. Palagi:  1st Class: “Neighborhood Map” sketch check; Five Themes. 2nd Class: Using Latitude and Longitude. 3rd Class: Map projections. 4th Class: Review.

Math – Ms. Burgess: Students in the Red and Orange math classes will be wrapping up Chapter 1 this week, focusing on 2-step equations and inequalities. A test on Chapter 1 will take place next week. Students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be finishing Chapter 2, which will include the Decimal/Fraction relationship and Scientific Notation. Have a marvelous week!

Reading – Mrs. Wheeler:  The first reading journals have been graded and returned. On Monday of each week, students will do a self-assessment or +/D (Plus/Delta) chart  --  what went well and what needs to change in the next journal entry.  Please discuss the +/D charts at home.  We have journals due on 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17 and 10/24.  Our focus this week will be on the 4 P’s (not Mr. Palagi and his family) – PREVIEW, PREDICT, PURPOSE, and PRIOR KNOWLEDGE.  We will work on vocabulary, graphic organizers, and finally an essay, How do the 4 P’s help ACTIVE learners be more efficient and effective?  Have a great week.  J

The printing policy for reading is the same as English.  Please e-mail me any journal to be printed at [email protected].

Science – Mr. Fisher:  Last week, we sang the cell theory chant using our music smarts. This week in Science, we will be continuing our Egg-speriment!  What will happen when the egg is immersed in salt water?  Hmm… I wonder.   We will also be learning about the cell organelles (they are little tiny organs), making flash cards (word smarts) and then making movements to represent the functions of the organelles.  We will be having our first quiz on cells, organelles and Scramble during the last class of the week.  Have an endoplasmic reticular week!  Check out our website: www.mfisher.net.   Email questions, concerns: [email protected]

Educational Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker:  Now that we are several weeks into school, and notebooks will be checked soon, it is time to make sure that each subject’s notebook is in order according to its Table of Contents. If you are missing information or papers, see your subject teacher. If you need help getting your notebooks organized, plan to stay after school for a quick organization session. Don’t wait until mid-term to get yourself organized. Extra help is available on Tuesday and Thursday by arrangement now that late buses are starting. Parents, please check daily agendas to help ensure that homework is being completed—the percent of on-time homework completion is not as high as it should be.

World Language – Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley:  Students should be working on their advertisement posters.  Start memorizing two to five Vocabulary words each day.
