The Gemini Blue Tuesday Sheet

“A Weekly School-wide Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”

September 16, 2003

English – Mrs. Rezendes:  This week we will continue to work on improving our writing by using snapshots.  In addition, students will receive the directions and rubric for their first major paper, a memoir, by the end of the week.  The rough draft of the memoir will be due on Tuesday, September 23rd (for red, orange, and yellow classes), or Wednesday, September 24th (green and blue classes).

Geography – Mr. Palagi:  1st Class: Check on folder layouts; Earth Charts, “Hemispheres and Quadrants”. 2nd Class: “5 Themes of Geography”. 3rd Class: “Neighborhood Maps”. 4th Class: 2003 Geography Fair project.

Math – Ms. Burgess:  This week in math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be working on Solving Equations.  We will take a quiz on this during the last math class of the week.  The Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be continuing work with Decimals.  We will be taking a quiz on Rounding and Multiplying Decimals later this week.  Please make sure that students are completing homework EVERY NIGHT!  It is important to practice your skills in order to improve.  Have a wonderful week!  J

Reading – Mrs. Wheeler:  The collages were awesome and wonderful proof that we are off to a great start.  This week we are working on active reading strategies and modeling them with Shirley Jackson’s short story, “Charles.”  We will also use this story to learn about irony and 1st person point of view.  The criteria and rubric for journals have been given out (stapled to the inside of journal books) and the first journal is due Friday.

Science – Mr. Fisher:  This week in Science, we will be working on a Science in the News article with a peer.  Our first article is due in homeroom on Wednesday, September 17th.   Students are encouraged to use our class web site to gain access to many SCIENCE current events (www.mfisher.net). We will also be beginning our unit on the living world and cells this week.  Thank you to everyone who brought in supplies for our science class, they are appreciated!  Email questions, concerns: [email protected]

Educational Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker:  The Gemini 7 Blue team of students appears to be off to a great start—agendas are completed daily and projects that have come in have been great. The “Getting to Know Gemini Blue” collages look wonderful; parents had a chance to stop and look during “Back to School Night” last Thursday. Organization of notebooks should be an ongoing process now that they have been set up in the classroom.  Take the time to put papers into the proper notebook so that the “black hole” (locker) does not get them. If you need assistance, plan to stop by during homeroom and make arrangements for getting things in order.

Spanish and French—Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley:  There was a quiz on numbers today.  An advertisement project will be assigned on Wednesday.  Health starts Friday.

TEAM News:

Correction -- There is NO early release day in September.  Please disregard the 9/24 date in the last Tuesday Sheet.

THANK YOU -- Our wonderful display, “Getting to Know Gemini Blue,” was thanks to the effort of many students helping to put up all the collages.  EVERY student on the team has a collage on display!  Kudos to Erin Carey, Ashley Cretinion, Greg Hughes, Matt Gear, Christina Keith, Kirsten LeGrow, John Prince and former Blue Team members Chelsea Barry, Laura Gigliotti, Katelyn Hunt, and Lauren Maloney for all their help.
