The Gemini
Blue Tuesday Sheet
“A Weekly School-wide
Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”
October 7, 2003
English – Mrs. Rezendes: This week in English, we
will continue to practice writing thoughtshots. Students will rewrite a well-known fairy tale from another
character’s point of view; the directions and rubric were handed out yesterday
or today depending on class color. The
rough draft of the fairy tale is due tomorrow (red and orange classes) or
Thursday (yellow, green, and blue classes).
Geography –
Mr. Palagi: 1st Class: Geo
Fair 2003 introduction. 2nd Class: GeoFair 2003 library time;
P.C.I.S. IMC. 3rd Class: Researching a topic and selecting a
category, single, pair, or group. 4th Class: Materials; work space;
starting- up. The approach to the Fair project may take all week. It is
integrated with regular geography curriculum.
Math – Ms.
Burgess: This
week in math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be beginning Chapter
2, which focuses on Integers. Students
in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be starting Chapter 13, which deals
with Probability. All students already
have or will be bringing home a Learner’s Reflection sheet for their first test
of the year. These sheets require a
parent signature. The Blue team wishes
our first group of students good luck as they participate in the first monthly
PCIS math competition. All Blue Team
students will be competitors at some point this year. Have a wonderful week! J
Reading – Mrs.
Wheeler: Students have been
completing self-assessments with +/D charts on their journals and on their first
test. Please review these assessments
as we work towards CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT!
This week we will be creating individual learning style cubes to
help students be more efficient and effective as they take charge of their own
learning. The October Bookfest
project, worth 25% of the term 1 grade, has been handed out on orange
paper. Please review the criteria to
plan, create, and evaluate your project.
The 4th journal of term 1 is due Friday. Happy reading. J
Science – Mr.
Fisher: Last
week in Science, we learned about chemical compounds in cells and osmosis and
diffusion. This week, we will be
tackling the glorious reactions of photosynthesis and fabulous process of
respiration; two life processes that we should give thanks for everyday. (Ask your child to do the “photosynthesis
dance” for you.) Our second Science in
the News was returned today and we completed a +/D chart to access how we are
doing. The third installment is due on
October 15th. I will be
available for after school help with Science in the News on Tuesday and
Thursday this week! If you need help,
please stay after school! Have a
stomata-like week!
World
Languages—Mrs. Borstel, Ms. Barnes, and Ms. Sequira:
Students returned to
Language classes today for computer vocabulary practice. Advertisement projects are due Oct. 9th. Continue memorizing VOCABULARY A words and
phrases. Many students still owe parent
signature on the Language Newsletter.
Please check to make sure you have reviewed the course information sheet
and have signed off on the bottom.
Educational
Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: Now
that mid-term has passed, it is time to gear up for the end of the term
projects that will be due. New calendars have pinpointed due (DEADline) dates
for the Octoberfest project and journal dates. Time management is very
important. Do not leave everything for the last minute. Quality work, good
effort, and following the criteria make the best projects. Not exactly sure
what to do, plan to stay for extra help (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Parents,
please encourage your student to come for academic help with the Blue Team
teachers. There is at least one teacher available each day, and, yes, the math
teacher can do reading, and the reading teacher can do math.
TEAM News:
October
Calendar: Each
month in reading class, students
will get a team block calendar as a time management strategy/technique. Please ask to see this calendar and add
important dates to your family calendar. The gym/health/world language
schedule, academic due dates and team activities are included on the calendar.
Support Our
Soldiers (SOS): Plan to help Support our Soldiers by bringing
in items such as packaged snack items (nothing with chocolate as it melts),
juice boxes, travel size personal items, Chapstick, Kleenex, toilet paper,
Listerine Strips, hard candy and gum, paperback books, magazines, puzzle books,
cans of pasta and soup (particularly those with pull tabs).
Field Trip Forms: The
Zeiterion field trip forms and money need to be returned to Homeroom teachers
by October 14th.

Hughes who will represent our team in the next level of the Reader’s Digest
