The Gemini
Blue Tuesday Sheet
“A Weekly School-wide
Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”
November 4, 2003
English – Mrs. Rezendes: This week we will be
finishing up with The Necklace. Students will work on writing a letter as
though they are one of the main characters in order to demonstrate their
understanding of the story and its characters.
The letter is due on Wednesday (orange class), Thursday (red, green, and
blue classes), or Friday (yellow class—must be turned in before we go to the
movies).
Geography –
Mr. Palagi: 1st Meeting:
Collection of “Earth in Space” mini-folder, six sheets including the
planetarium charting sheet, “Sky Sheet”. These have been reviewed and
self-corrected on the overhead. I have collected them for a grade. They will be
a part of the Planet Earth
master folder after the GeoFair. Now we have nothing in our way except for the
project! 2nd Meeting: GeoFair workshops featuring five overheads for
map projections, letter cutting on the block cutter, sample projects set up for
display, computers set for “Google search”, computers for lettering also, in
different fonts, colored construction paper to take and use for trifold
backing, lettering and matting of pictures, cards, sketches etc., and other
interesting things to add an element of creativity to your project.
Math – Ms.
Burgess: This
week in math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be starting Chapter
5, which focuses on Geometry. Students
in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be beginning Chapter 3, which deals
with Data Analysis. The PCIS Math
Competition for November will be on Wednesday.
Good luck to our Blue Team participants! J
Reading – Mrs.
Wheeler: The October Bookfest
projects were wonderful and it was nice to have so many parents stop by to see
all of the students’ hard work. Grading
sheets for Octoberfest as well as term 1 have been sent home. Students should
complete a plus/delta chart on the term 1 grading sheet and have it signed by a
parent. Term 2 Know Where You Stand
sheets, Facing Challenges project criteria, parent letters, and November
calendars have also been sent home.
Please go over this information and make an ACTION PLAN for term 2. The first journal of the term is due
Friday. THANK YOU for a great first
term, I look forward to an even better second one!
Science – Mr.
Fisher: In
Science, we received our How To Succeed in Science Term 2 sheets, which detail
our due dates and upcoming projects for the term. We will be continuing our study of flight and be learning about
Daniel Bernoulli, the Swiss scientist who studied fluid pressure. We saw many of the exhibits from the Wright
Brother’s 100th anniversary flight and will be watching a flight
video this week. We also did several
tricks this week including the jumping dime and Bernoulli’s ping pong
balls. Have a low-pressure like week!
Educational
Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: First term has ended. Time
for a new start. If homework completion was a problem during term 1, what can
you do as an active, independent learner in term 2? Do you need to make your
homework time more productive? Here are some possibilities to think about—
establish a routine time to do your homework, decide on a specific location to
study without TV, enlist your parents to help quiz you or answer questions, do
the “dreaded” part first, and be realistic about time. Time management skills
don’t just drop out of thin air, you have to work at developing these skills.
Focus on doing quality work, and READ every night! Still need help getting work
done? Plan to join us after school to get extra help or just do your homework.
Make term 2 a successful experience. Be part of the TEAM!
World Language – Mrs. Borstel & Mrs.
Wesley: Students are returning from

to have a parent pick you up at this time.
If you cannot stay the entire time and need to take late busses, that is
fine, but it would be great if you can stay the whole time… Art takes time!
