The Gemini
Blue Tuesday Sheet
“A Weekly School-wide
Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”
November 18, 2003
English
– Mrs. Rezendes: This week in
English we will write a movie review for Remember the Titans. In
addition, this will be the first of several weeks we will be devoting to
reading and writing poetry! Students will have the opportunity to read the work
of other Plymouth poets and begin to develop their own writing style and voice.
Geography –
Mr. Palagi: 1st Meeting through 3rd
Meeting: A look back at the geography fair background material, i.e., five
themes, theme of the fair, “Habitats”, and the ability to talk freely about
these concepts through the use of a natural setting, a short film piece, that
becomes the evaluation, or assessment, for those geographic subjects. What is
the location in the film, exact and relative? What are some examples of place,
natural and human? How do the human and natural characters in the film relate,
or interact? What movement do we see in the film? Not just apparent movement
but more complex systems of movement. What is the larger region? What makes it
common? What makes it common and yet different? Habitat plays an all
encompassing role in the way all species live. It requires various things to
make it a biosphere capable of allowing life to thrive. What does the film
provide as examples?
Thank you for your help and participation in the team’s
hard work on their geography fair projects. A large portion of the team is
moving on to the regional fair at Bridgewater State College on Saturday,
November 22, 2003. Please see the attached sheet detailing project people,
directions, and congratulations.
Math – Ms. Burgess: This week in math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be finishing Chapter 5. They will have a Tessellation due on Wednesday, November 26th. We will be taking a test on Chapter 5 after the Thanksgiving break. Students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be working on MCAS strategies in class, and should be working on their Data Analysis Projects at home. They received criteria sheets and guidelines last week. This project is due by Wednesday, November 26th. Have a fantastic week! J
Reading – Mrs.
Wheeler: This week we will continue
our Facing Challenges unit reading Daniel Keyes short story, Flowers for
Algernon and watching the film, Remember the Titans. Students should be working on their
Challenge Logs and be sure that the table of contents is up to date. In the spirit of Facing Challenges, any
student who donates canned goods for our Thanksgiving Food Drive will earn 2
extra points in their log. Please bring
any donations to G2. The 2nd
journal of term 2 is due Friday. Have a
great week.
Science – Mr.
Fisher: This
week in Science, we are learning about the 6 kingdoms of classification. We will be working on a group project in
class. This will be a major part of our
Term 2 grade (special projects). We
also created our own taxonomic system with Creepy Critters. Do you know who invented the system of
classification? Ask your child to sing
you the classification song. Our first
Science in the News assignment for term 2 is due on Wednesday, November 19th. Have a Linnaeus-like week!
Educational
Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: Time to settle in now that
the Geo Fair is over, and get back on track. All homework should be completed
each night, and remember to follow all the criteria. Too many points are thrown
away because criteria are not being followed. Parents, please check your
child’s agenda and completed homework to ensure that all work is being
completed. This time of year is particularly hectic, and students tend to fall
behind. With your help, your child can avoid the second term slump.
World
Languages—Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley:
All activities this week will focus on classroom
object vocabulary words. Classroom
scene projects are due today 11/18.
Playing matching and/or concentration games is a great way to memorize
new words. There will be a quiz on
November 25th. We have played
games in the computer lab (see www.quia.com/jg/49767.html
for Spanish or www.quia.com.jg76681.html
for French) Try the same games or make
up your own index card versions.
TEAM News:
Parent
Conferences have been scheduled for November 19. A confirmation
letter with the date and time was mailed home to parents last week. If you have
any questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Baker at [email protected] or call
PCIS at (508) 830-4450 ext. 33.
Thanksgiving
Baskets: The Blue Team is looking for donations of canned
goods, cash or gift certifications from local supermarkets to supply one or
more Thanksgiving basket to needy families from the community. Canned goods
could include instant mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes or yams, squash, corn,
green beans, gravy, juices, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix. The cash will be
used to supply turkeys and desserts for the baskets. All donations need to be brought to Mrs. Wheeler by Thursday, November 20th.
