English – Mrs. Rezendes:  This week in English we will begin reading A Day No Pigs Would Die by Robert Newton Peck.  We will work on developing and practicing active reading strategies. 

 

 

Geography – Mr. Palagi: 1st Meeting: Physical map of SW Asia; news update. 2nd Meeting: Europe; reading language maps; mapping political Europe. 3rd Meeting: Analyzing maps and a selected reading, “Mont Blanc”.  4th Meeting: Evaluating our recent work, Africa, SW Asia, and Europe. 

 

 

Math – Ms. Burgess:  This week in math, students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes have already taken a test on Chapter 8.  We will be moving on to Chapter 9 tomorrow, which focuses on Geometry.  Students in the Red and Orange classes took a test today on Chapter 10.  We will be moving on to Chapter 12, which deals with Probability.  Have a fabulous week! J

 

 

Content Area Strategies – Mrs. Wheeler:  This week we will begin our Detective Unit and “Gemini Gumshoes.”  Students will practice their listening and reasoning skills as they try to solve 5 minute mysteries.  They will also learn more about the mystery genre including motive, means and opportunity.  Journals are due again on Friday.  Happy sleuthing!

 

 

Science – Mr. Fisher:  Our notebook quiz is on Wednesday for Red, Orange, Green and Blue class and on Thursday for Yellow class.  Our second Science in the News is due on Wednesday and our Newsroom will take place on the same day.  Our first week of Newsroom was a great success, we had lots of great news reports!  We will also be starting our new unit on the human body this week.  Have a anatomical-like week!  Grades online:  www.mfisher.net.

 

 

Educational Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker:  Mid-term has passed, and the time until the end of the year will fly by. There is still much to do, so keep up consistent effort.  Journals, projects and Science in the News should be worked on every night so you don’t get behind.  Make this your best term.J

 

World Language – Mrs. Borstel & Ms. Wesley:  Students had a quiz today on Section E.  Projects were due May 4th.  Please make sure your child completed it.  Many students owe homework; please have your child check with us.

 

 

 

TEAM News: Save the date---Friday, June 11th Gemini Family Night at Pawtucket Red Sox. The 7th and 8th grade teams have purchased a total of 125 tickets to the game. Tickets will go on sale next week—first come, first served.  Cash only—No Checks!  $9.00 without transportation or $14.00 which includes bus transportation from and back to PCIS.
