The Gemini Blue Tuesday Sheet

“A Weekly School-wide Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”

March 16, 2004

English – Mrs. Rezendes: This week we will wrap up our unit on persuasive writing.  Red, orange, and yellow classes turned in the final drafts of their essays today.  Green and blue will turn in their final drafts tomorrow.  All students received their papers back from the MCAS scrimmage with a detailed response on their strengths and areas where they need improvement.  These papers should be kept and reviewed before the actual MCAS Long Composition on March 30th.

Geography – Mr. Palagi: 1st Meeting: Channel One look at the news; 2nd 12”x18” chart on the Great Rift Valley. 2nd Meeting: Physical geography of Africa. 3rd Meeting: Human geography of Africa. 4th Meeting: Economic geography of Africa.

Math – Ms. Burgess: This week in math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be working with Square Roots and Perfect Squares.  Students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be working on Operations with Fractions and Mixed Numbers.  All students also completed their third practice Open Response MCAS Problem of the year.  Pi Day was wonderful!  A huge thank you to all of the supportive parents and families who sent in pies and cakes!  Have an excellent week!  J

Reading – Mrs. Wheeler: Thank you to Mrs. Rezendes and all the students for making our MCAS Long Composition “Scrimmage” successful last Friday.  Students should be well prepared for the “Big Dance” on March 30th.  This week students are wrapping up the requirements for their biography presentations.  Questions and Answers were passed in Monday or Tuesday and Timelines are due Thursday.  PLEASE be sure to follow all the criteria. We will have one final workshop day on the Thursday we return from Bournedale.  Presentations will start on the Friday following Bournedale – anyone volunteering on that day will receive 10 extra bonus points!  Journals have been returned and include the journal average for term 3.  Tests will follow later in the week.  Please share this information at home.  Have a great week and think SUNSHINE. J

Science – Mr. Fisher:  This week in Science, we are studying the behavior of gases, examining how pressure, temperature and volume work together.  We will also be studying physical and chemical changes in class.  Have an ‘atomos’-like week!  Grades are updated online Sunday nights.  www.mfisher.net.

Educational Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: There are projects and assignments to do before we go to camp next week, so don’t give up. Work on your biography project everyday. Have you made up all your missing work? Take care of business, stay after school and get work turned in now.  Each missing assignment represents a 0 and you know what that can do to your average. DEADlines are rapidly approaching so plan your time wisely.

World Languages—Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley: Students will be returning to Language classes today. In the computer lab, we will begin the new TIME unit. Vocabulary game worksheet projects are due Thursday, March 18.

TEAM News:

Bournedale Cabins: All overnight chaperones should have received a letter from Ms. Burgess including important information regarding times, details, etc.  We look forward to seeing you next week at camp.  Please feel free to get in touch with Ms. Burgess if you have any questions or concerns.

Parent Chaperones for Evening activities:  Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to chaperone for evening activities.  We appreciate you taking some of your time to spend with our students at Bournedale.  It’s not too late if you want to volunteer!  The more the merrier!  If you would like to share a craft, talent or skill, or simply would like to supervise basketball, soccer, etc., send an email to Mr. Fisher at [email protected] or call during the school day at 830-4450.  Thanks!
