Blue Tuesday Sheet

English – Mrs. Rezendes: In preparation for reading
the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, students will be completing guided
research this week. Students will learn
about the author, Mildred Taylor, and about the racism that was prevalent
during the time period that the novel takes place.
Geography – Mr. Palagi: 1st Meeting: Class Geography Bees; this is the 2nd
half of the first round of the 2004 National Geographic Geography Bee (we
played the first round the day before vacation); students will be selected to
compete at the team level and then at the school level. 2nd Meeting:
Global landforms (graphic). 3rd Meeting: Analyzing depths of the
ocean floor. 4th Meeting: Earthquakes and other phenomenon. This
section on Global landforms comes out of chapter five in the home book.
Math – Ms.
Burgess: This
week in math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be finishing Chapter
6. They will be taking a test on
Wednesday (Red) or Friday (Orange).
Students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be starting work on
Chapter 1, focusing on Order of Operations and Solving Equations. Term 2 ends in 17 days – check the charts
and get caught up now that the holidays are over! Have a wonderful week! J
Reading – Mrs.
Wheeler: Welcome back and Happy 2004.
There are 10 days left before the Facing Challenge Log DEADline.
Please review the criteria on the inside cover of the log to be sure you don’t
throw points away. There will be a
final workshop day on Friday (Thursday for Red class). There will also be a DEADline bonus. Anyone passing in his/her log on Monday,
Jan. 12 will receive 10 extra points, Tuesday, Jan. 13 – 8 extra points;
Wednesday, Jan. 14 – 6 extra points; and Thursday, Jan. 15 – 4 extra
points. This week we will be starting a
new newspaper unit focusing on the format and strategies for reading date
specific informational text. The
last journal of term 2 is due Friday.

Science – Mr.
Fisher: This
week in Science we are jumping right back into the Scientific Method. We will be conducting several experiments,
including the Bubble Gum Bubble, Ball Bounce and Pendulum labs. We will be practicing our skills of metric
measurement throughout these experiments.

Educational
Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: Best wishes to all for a happy and peaceful New Year. Second term ends
on January 23rd—Challenge Log deadline is January 16th
so keep up the good work. Make-up of
the Mrs. Baker response for the Challenge Log will be on Tuesday, January 13th—the
first day there are late buses. Now is the time to make your resolutions and
set your goals for the New Year! What
will you do differently for the rest of the year? Parents, it is important for
you to continue checking agendas and criteria sheets to ensure that your child
is meeting all the criteria and deadlines for projects. Your help is most appreciated
by all the teachers on the Blue Team.
World
Languages—Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley:
We are concentrating on the “Where are you from?”
theme. We will learn the vocabulary and
some countries that speak French/Spanish.
Postcard presentations will begin next week. If your child’s project is still outstanding please make sure it
is completed ASAP.
