Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”

English – Mrs. Rezendes: We are continuing to read Roll
of Thunder, Hear My Cry this week.
Students are doing a wonderful job of using active reading strategies as
they read and discuss the novel in their literature circles. In addition to the reading, it is important
for students to keep up-to-date with their learning logs. By the end of the week, students should have
learning logs for chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 (no log required for chapter 6).
Geography –
Mr. Palagi: 1st
Meeting: Supply/materials grade; layout check; graphic organizer “Patterns of
Life”. 2nd Meeting: Skills-“Supporting Details-Patterns of Life”. 3rd

following the primaries held on February 3rd and other current
events.
Math – Ms.
Burgess: This
week in math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be finishing the last
lesson in Chapter 7, reviewing, and taking a Chapter 7 test during their last
math class of the week (Red – Thursday, Orange – Friday). Students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue
classes will be working on Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing
Integers. They will take a quiz on all
four Operations with Integers on Friday.
Have a fabulous week! J
Reading – Mrs.
Wheeler: This week students were given the criteria for our 3rd
term biography project. Please read, sign, and return the action plan with the various due
dates. Since this
is such a detailed project, it is important to break the task into smaller
components so it does not become overwhelming. The first journal
of the term is due Friday. The
biography book can be used for BOTH the project and the journal entries --
it’s a “2 for” – such a deal.
Happy READING.
Science – Mr.
Fisher: This week in Science, we
will be continuing our study of the properties of matter, including mass and volume.
We will be completing several labs with the triple beam balance and be working
with graduated cylinders to measure the volume of liquids. We had our first
quiz of the term on lab equipment on Monday. Our first Science in the News
assignment is due this Wednesday, February 4th. Keep up with your
child’s work/progress: Student grades can now be accessed through our class
website at www.mfisher.net,
and averages are listed by their student ID number. Questions, comments? [email protected].
Have a graduated cylinder like week!
Educational
Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: Time management, a recurring
theme for my entry, is essential for success. It is difficult to juggle all the
activities that a seventh grader participates in, along with daily homework and
long-term projects. However, building time management skills now will be
beneficial for a lifetime. Use of a daily agenda, monthly calendar, and time
line for project completion will help keep your student on track. Weekly
journals, Science in the News dates, and other assignments should be written
in. Parents, please check your child’s agenda to help ensure timely completion
of work.
World Language – Mrs. Borstel & Ms. Wesley: Students are working on a passport project while in
Health rotation. The project is due Friday, February 6th.
