The Gemini Blue Tuesday Sheet

“A Weekly School-wide Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”

February 24, 2004

English – Mrs. Rezendes:  This week we will finish Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.  In addition, students will receive the directions and rubric for their next major assignment, an essay which focuses on one theme from the novel.  Students will read an example essay and have the opportunity to brainstorm their ideas for the essay in class.  The directions/rubric can also be found at my website at www.geocities.com/tarastano/homework. The essay is due on Tuesday, March 2nd (red, orange, and yellow classes), or Wednesday, March 3rd (green and blue classes).

Geography – Mr. Palagi:  1st Meeting: Re-entry! A look at what we missed: Haiti, Campaign 2004 (Dean out, Nader in); a set- up chart on our “People on Earth” theme, the development of world wide cultures. 2nd Meeting: Cultural origins; primitive societies; cultural attributes. 3rd Meeting: People shape the land; hunting and gathering, agriculture, cities, industry, and modern technology. 4th Meeting: Early world cultures. Note: Students need to be supplied with three-ring binders, (if worn please replace), colored pencils, pencils, pens, sharpeners, large erasers,  and a three-ring pouch to hold materials in binders. Thank you very much for this.

Math – Ms. Burgess:  This week in Math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be finishing up work with Ratios and Proportions.  They will take a test on Chapter 3 on Thursday (Red) or Friday (Orange).  Students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes are working on Solving 2-Step Equations.  They will take a quiz on Solving Equations on Thursday (Yellow) or Friday (Green and Blue).  Friday is Mid-Term!  Make sure all make-up work is turned in by Friday!  J

Reading – Mrs. Wheeler:  We are continuing with our Biography Projects, learning correct citation of sources.   REMEMBER:  Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, and Alta Vista are search engines NOT sources.  Students will have all the specific criteria sheets for the biography project by Friday – there is a separate sheet for note-cards, questions and answers, and timelines.  The third journal of term 3 is due Friday.  Read and research well!!!

Science – Mr. Fisher:  This week in Science, we will be creating a Floa-Sinker. It’s an object that neither floats nor sinks; it’s suspended in water! How will we do this? It’s the science of DENSITY. We will have our mid-term Potato next week.  It will cover the Scientific Method and Metric Measurement (Mass, Volume, Length, Density and Temperature). Students can use their notes to review for our Potato (that’s a test). Science in the News is due Wednesday, March 3, 2004. Student grades can be accessed on our class web site at www.mfisher.net. Have a Floa-Sinker week!

Educational Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: Mid-term is Friday. Have you made up all your work? If not, plan to stay this week and get caught up.  Be sure to make prior arrangements to stay with a teacher. There are many things due in the next few weeks so plan your time wisely. Parents, please continue to check agendas on a nightly basis to help your child stay on track and organized, and to ensure homework completion.

World Languages—Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley:  We are continuing to use the calendar vocabulary.  We will tie it in to students’ birthdays and other activities.  A project will be assigned on Wednesday.  The Health rotation starts Friday.
