The Gemini
Blue Tuesday Sheet
“A Weekly School-wide
Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”
December 9, 2003
English – Mrs. Rezendes: Students have been doing a
wonderful job on their poetry thus far.
By the end of the week, students will receive the directions and rubric
for a Poetry Book. The Poetry Book is a
major assignment; the deadline is December 23rd.
Geography –
Mr. Palagi: 1st
Meeting: Charting geo fundamentals; parallels of latitude; meridians of
longitude; special lines of latitude and climate zones. 2nd Meeting: Projections; how
Earth rotates; Earth’s revolution around the sun; the sun’s rays on Earth; the
geography of water. 3rd Meeting: Earth’s water cycle; earth’s moving
air; water resources. 4th Meeting: The geography of water; water
resources. Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 are the background readings from the home
book.
Math – Ms.
Burgess: This
week in math, students in the Red and Orange classes will be continuing work in
Chapter 6, focusing on Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple. Students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue
classes will be working on these topics as well. Quizzes on these concepts will be coming up at the end of the
week. Wednesday is the December PCIS
Monthly Math Competition. Gemini is currently
in 2nd place.
Congratulations and good luck to our December participants! J
Reading – Mrs.
Wheeler: This
week we continue Facing Challenges with She Dared to Be An Athlete
(Babe Didrikson), a nonfiction piece about Title IX, and Still Me
(Christopher Reeve). Thanks to the Home
School Association, we are fortunate to have a guest speaker, Wayne Ross, meet
with us in Little Theater on Wednesday.
Wayne was a world class bicycler before an accident left him
paralyzed. Thank you HSA and thank you
Wayne!!! Students should be keeping
their Challenge Logs up-to-date by checking the Challenge Checklist
on the front board. The fourth journal
of the term is due Friday.
Science – Mr.
Fisher: This week in Science we are
having our 'potato' quiz on the six kingdoms. We will be reviewing the
material that we taught in our teaching activity by completing several writing
activities as well. Our second Science in the News was returned this
week. Our last current event is due December 17th. Have a multi-cellular
week! Question, comments? www.mfisher.net
Educational
Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: Recently I have noticed that many students are not taking the time to
put their papers into the proper place in their notebooks. The black holes
(lockers) are bulging with loose papers.
Each teacher has a table of contents posted or a particular notebook
order to follow. Parents, please help make sure that your student’s notebooks
are in order—table of contents up-to-date, papers filed in order, and all loose
papers in their proper place. The Facing Challenges project has
begun—make sure that enough time is set aside each day to work on it. Newspaper
and magazine article responses should be completed at home. There is enough stress this time of year
without adding more by missing deadlines or not being able to find your work.
World
Languages—Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley:
Students should be working on their Postcard
Projects due 12/23. Anyone who was out
the last day of the session (12/1) should report to his or her teacher for
their country and rubric.
TEAM News:
Holiday
Band Concert: The
Gemini Blue Team invites you to the combined 7th/8th
grade Holiday Band Concert held in the gym on Thursday, December 11th
at 7:00 p.m.
PCIS Food
Drive: Students at PCIS are being asked to participate in a
food drive and give back to the community. The food drive will be held until
December 19th to help restock the many food pantries in the Plymouth
area before the holiday season and winter months. Any unopened, non-perishable
food donations would be greatly appreciated.
Toys for Tots: The sixth grade in Gemini House is sponsoring a toy drive for the holidays. 7th grade students would like to contribute should bring in a new, unwrapped toy by December 19th. All toys will be distributed to children in the Plymouth area this year.
Little
Buddy Visit: The little buddies are coming
to visit on December 17th!
If there is anyone willing to send in any goodies that we can share with
our second grade little buddies, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Cold and
Flu Season: With the cold and flu season upon us, we are
in need of Kleenex/tissues. You would not believe how fast a box disappears in
a classroom. Students are asked to bring in Kleenex/tissues to homeroom
teachers, and we will share among the team. (Of course, kindness and team
spirit stamps will be given. J)
