The Gemini Blue Tuesday Sheet

“A Weekly School-wide Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”

December 2, 2003

English – Mrs. Rezendes: Before the break, students were working on format poetry; this week students will begin writing free-verse poetry.  Now that the holiday is over, this is a good time for students to check the charts in my room and catch up with any make up work.

Geography – Mr. Palagi: 1st Meeting: Supply check; Graphic Organizer, “Earth’s Atmosphere and Climates”; return “Earth Charts” (punched out for folder storage). 2nd Meeting: “Climographs”; climate statistics. 3rd Meeting: “Atmospheric Effects”. 4th Meeting: “Global Climates”.

Thank you for all your support and consideration during the Geography Fair. Please see the sheet enclosed with today’s Tuesday Sheet for the list of people who took awards at the 17th Annual Semagnet Geography Fair at Bridgewater State College.

Math – Ms. Burgess: The Red and Orange math classes took a test today on Chapter 5, dealing with Geometry.  They turned in tessellations last Wednesday for a major assignment grade.  Students in the Yellow, Green, and Blue classes began Chapter 4 this week, which deals with Number Patterns and Factorization.  They passed their Data Analysis Projects in last week.  We have a lot of work to do before the holiday break!  Have a productive week! J

Reading – Mrs. Wheeler: This week students will complete reading Flowers for Algernon and write responses in their Challenge Logs.  They should make sure they stay current with their log and not fall behind. A sample log is available for reference during homeroom and academic or during workshop time.  This Friday is already midterm and another reading journal is due.  Happy reading – remember you should be reading 40 – 60 pages EACH week.  I’m looking forward to a great week and great journals.  Welcome back!

Science – Mr. Fisher: This week in Science we are working on completing our study of the six kingdoms.  Students created group-teaching posters and will spend the next 3 days teaching their classmates in small groups the characteristics of each of the kingdoms.  This project counts as 25% of their term 2 grade and is broken into individual and group criteria.  Our second Science in the News assignment is due this Wednesday.  Have a protist-like week!

Educational Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: The count down to the next holiday vacation has begun; however, there is still much to be done. Make sure that you plan your time wisely with all the extra activities that come with the holidays. There are still journals, Facing Challenges assignments, Science in the News assignments, as well as other projects/work to be done before Dec. 23rd. Utilize your monthly planner and daily agenda. Parents, please help by checking your child's agenda against completed work on a daily basis.  Thank you.

World Languages—Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley: We have begun a culture/geography unit. A postcard project was assigned on Monday, December 1st and is due on December 23. The Health rotation begins on Wednesday, December 3rd.
