The Gemini Blue Tuesday Sheet
“A Weekly
School-wide Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success”
December 16,
2003
English – Mrs. Rezendes: Students received the directions and rubric for the Poetry Book last week. The deadline for this major assignment is Tuesday, December 23rd. The directions and rubric can also be found on my website at www.geocities.com/tarastano/homework. (Reminder: If you type your Poetry Book at home but cannot print it there, you can bring in your disk to print it at school. However, you also must e-mail me a copy at [email protected] in case something happens to the disk.)
Geography – Mr. Palagi: 1st Meeting: The Water Planet. 2nd Meeting: Locating bodies of water on a map. 3rd Meeting: Locating local water resources. 4th Meeting: How lakes are created. Channel One News-all week and charting. Round one of the National Geographic Society Geography Bee 2003-2004 is coming up!
Math – Ms. Burgess: This week in math, students in
the Red and Orange classes will be continuing work on Chapter 6, focusing on
Rational Numbers. Students in the
Yellow, Green, and Blue classes will be taking a TEST on Chapter 4 on FRIDAY. Have a wonderful week and a pleasant holiday
break! J
Reading – Mrs. Wheeler: This week Mrs. Baker will teach students about the challenges of dealing with learning disabilities in an activity called “LD Mass Confusion.” The first test of the term was today for yellow and will be Wednesday for all other classes. Students have an OPTIONAL journal this week. My holiday gift is to cancel journals due Friday. However, if anyone chooses to do a journal, I will substitute it for their lowest grade. There are quite a few students with “zeros” for missing journals so this is a perfect opportunity to take charge and raise your grade. I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe, and happy holiday season!
Science – Mr. Fisher: This week in Science, we are
beginning our work with the Scientific Method.
We will be taking a pre-unit survey to start the week and learning our
new song about the steps of the Scientific Method. We will be conducting several experiements over the next two
weeks and be practicing our skills of observation, prediction writing and
making conclusions. We completed our
Kingdom Quiz this week and they will be returned this week. Have a hypothesis filled week. Questions,
comments? www.mfisher.net
Educational Support Specialist – Mrs. Baker: One
week to go before the vacation, and one major project is due before vacation
and one afterwards! Have you been
working on these projects? Don’t wait
until the last minute. Remember,
quality is more important than quantity.
Parents in this hectic time of year, please monitor your student’s
homework more closely. After the
holiday vacation, there are only three weeks until the end of term 2 so make
each night’s work count. Facing Challenges
Log (due Jan.16th) should be done on a nightly basis—plan to do your
interview over vacation. Don’t forget
the newspaper article and magazine article that are to be done as part of your
log. Your poetry book is due (Dec. 23rd)
before you go on vacation. Get as much
done as you can this week so you will be able to relax over vacation.
World
Language—Mrs. Borstel and Mrs. Wesley: Students return to Language classes on Friday
12-19. They should report directly to
the regularly assigned computer lab on Friday.
We will have time to work on the assigned postcard project. it is due 12/23. We aim to have all make-up work in before vacation. We are available during homeroom and lunches
if students have questions.
TEAM News:
PCIS Food Drive: Students at PCIS
are being asked to participate in a food drive and give back to the community.
The food drive will be held until December 19th to help restock the
many food pantries in the Plymouth area before the holiday season and winter
months. Any unopened, non-perishable food donations would be greatly
appreciated.
Toys for Tots: The sixth grade in Gemini House is sponsoring a toy drive for the holidays. Any 7th grade students who would like to contribute should bring in a new, unwrapped toy by December 19th. All toys will be distributed to children in the Plymouth area this year.
Gemini Artists: Because Mr. Fisher needed to abruptly cancel
Gemini Artists last week, we will have an afternoon this Thursday from 3 – 5
PM. Please plan to have your parents pick
you up at 5 PM. Thanks!
Little Buddy Visit: The
little buddies are coming to visit on December 17th! If there is anyone willing to send in any
goodies that we can share with our second grade little buddies, it would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Cold and Flu Season: With the cold and
flu season upon us, we are in need of Kleenex/tissues. You would not believe
how fast a box disappears in a classroom. Students are asked to bring in
Kleenex/tissues to homeroom teachers, and we will share among the team. (Of
course, kindness and team spirit stamps will be given. J)
