Playing a brand of raw and energetic rock, this group of driven individuals believed so intensely in their music, their spirit spread to their faithful fans like a raging fire.

Formed in 1969, the group displayed the determination and skill that develop into a healthy following. Theirs was a sound that shocked the establishment.

Stadiums were packed whenever Sweet Charity was due to perform, and tickets were snapped up long before the doors of the venue were open. Their albums were also to prove enduring.

The impressive Pelarian album (1980) hit sales of 20,000 units in the first week of its release. In all they released seven albums with long-standing hits such as Kamalia, Jangan Tunggu Lama-Lama, Apa-Apa Saja, Datang dan Pergi and Zakiah.

Known as the magnificent seven, the band comprise of the enigmatic Ramli Sarip (lead vocal), Rahman Sarbani, Rosli Mohalim, Syed Hassan, Ahmad Jaafar, Wan Ahmad and Masrom Abdul Hamid.

They were responsible for nine albums, and toured widely, spreading their music to an ever-growing group of fans.

Sweet Charity has served as the catalyst to launch many other groups since in this region. You may remember under the names of Search, Wings and Lefthanded.

In 1985, the group was disbanded. However, since Sweet Charity exit from the scene, there have been several sell-out concerts to re-connect the threads of Sweet Charity with the faithful following that still pay close attention to the band¹s music.

To close the door on three decades of influence and music-making, Sweet Charity performed their famous numbers at the climax of the Concert, a nostalgic ride down those years of glory.

LIVE TRIBUTE TO SWEET CHARITY CONCERT was held at Fort Canning Park on Saturday, 13th November 1999 at 8.00 p.m.

Top Singaporean, Malaysian and Indonesian artists- Amy, Ella, Hattan, Kopratasa, Lovehunters, Yantzen and Ian Antono performed at the magical concert. These artists were engaged to present its music in a high-fire concert that mark 25 years of Sweet Charity.

Special joint radio award by RIA & WARNA has been presented as tribute to the original members of the group.
