Ramli Sarip or better known as 'Papa Rock', synonymous with his famous rock anthems, has exploded back into the music scene with a brand new 'live’ album. Aptly entitled 'ALIVE', the album was recorded on 14th November 1998 in front of a ‘live’ audience at the Synchrosound Studio for an NTV7 show scheduled to be shown on local TV. According to Ramli, he wanted the recording to be done live to recreate the chemistry between musicians really hitting it off with each other. Any other way would not have done justice to the talent present at the session who included Samad of Lefthanded and Sweet Charity’s Wan Ahmad on guitars, veteran sessionist and ex-Revolver Tom on drums, Search’s Yazit also on drums, Yan of Lefthanded and Hamid (ex-Black Dog Bone) both on bass. To add to the air of a classic rock and roll session, the stage was set-up to recreate a 70's feel. The album which comprises mostly rock and blues numbers including 6 new songs has been a special project that Ramli has longed to do for quite sometime. Despite the 'hard and energetic' mood of this particular album, he will still be invoking the Middle Eastern feel that he introduced with his previous release ‘Syair Timur’ on his future works. 'Syair Timur' surprised even Ramli’s most avid followers with his adoption of a new musical direction. The album’s obvious Middle Eastern influences appeared to be well-received by his fans considering that he always been known as a rock and blues man, the pioneer and icon in Malay rock music. 'Alive’ was produced Ramli Sarip himself and is released under the BMG Music label. Songs include 'Jejak Ke Syurga', 'Tuhan Yang Tahu', 'Blues Bee', 'Irama Kasih', 'Akal VS Jiwa', 'Munafik' and 'Hujan'. |
