Disclaimer: I don't own Sailor Moon, yeah to Naoko Takeuchi, and I really don't own the song I used for this fic. Its a really great cd called Dizzy Up the Girl put out by the Goo Goo Dolls and the idea just wouldn't leave me alone so I had to write it, needed a break from my epic sized story which I'll get back to next week, promise! I don't own either SM or the above mentioned song so please don't copy! I've read a few fics like this and wanted to experiment so here we go! Please let me know what you think! Email me at inspiredthoughts@hotmail.com Little Note: This takes place first season(with just Ami, Serena, and Rei) between Jadeite and Rei during a battle that I made up, enjoy! Oh and there's a sentence that is a reference to my other story in here. Jadeite mentions Rei's brother and unhappy home life in the story which goes back to Rei: First Love. Its not critical to read it to understand this at all but wanted to let ya'll know where it came from. Reunion Featuring the Song: Acoustic #3 *They painted up your secrets, With the lies they told to you, And the least they ever gave you, Was the most you ever knew...* Jadeite ducked under the flames that came hurdling at his head. With a curse he narrowly missed the tiara that flew at his him. Gathering his energy around him he shoved down his violently conflicting feelings and threw his own power at the three girls that ringed around him in the dark alley. Carefully he made sure that the brunt of the attack was aimed just a tad too high. Hearing cries he winced and swore again. He could barely see her through the mist that Mercury made. Just a swirl of midnight silk for her hair and slight glimpses of muted red. Red heels that encased a model's legs and a red skirt that covered a slender waist. A waist that he used to hold. Red lips he used to kiss... He wondered how much she remembered. Probably nothing. It was most likely better that way. Sometimes he wished he hadn't remembered too, on that fateful day when Beryl's army was reincarnated after the Last Battle of the Silver Millennium. Then he could finally rest... Shoving the unwanted thought away he blocked back the pain and readied himself for another 'attack'. He had remembered somehow, when they had awakened, and Beryl had bid him to kill the scouts. He had agreed because he knew there was no other way. As long as he lived he could protect them. As long as he made sure all his plans failed and managed to convince Beryl to trust him then she wouldn't send anyone else against his beloved and her friends. He knew one day...no he couldn't think of that now. If only Rei could remember him and their love, but no. If she remembered anything at all it would be what they told her, if they told her anything at all he doubted it would be the truth. If only he could escape Beryl...but alas that was not an option open to him. He had control of his mind now because she didn't suspect him, if she did he would be lost. *And I wonder where these dreams go, When the world gets in your way, What's the point in all this screaming, No one's listening anyway...* As he fought for his life Jadeite wondered how this could have happened. They had shared more than just passion, their love had been unrelenting and true and their dreams held a future bright as any sun. But they were gone now. He mourned the loss of their future together as he mourned nothing else because nothing else mattered. His life was empty now and he lived for the sole purpose of defending his true love. He knew it wouldn't, couldn't be long now until Beryl either found out or killed him for his incompetence but any time was precious. It gave the senshi time to build their powers and relearn what they needed, had to know in order to survive. That's why though he never tried to kill he pushed them as far as he could. They had to learn *now* because they wouldn't get any more chances. It killed his newly remembered humanity a little more every time he spoke to them, to her. Every time he saw them cringe at the cruel words he uttered and scream in pain if he misjudged and sent his power too close to them. But it was his penance. He had betrayed Rei's love and he'd gladly suffer in this hell for eternity if he could help her, even if it was only in the smallest of ways. *Your voice is small and fading, And you hide in here unknown, And your mother loves your father, 'Cause she's got nowhere to go...* With a flip he dodged the ice blasts sent towards him and bit back a cry of pain as fire seared his back. Pain blossomed like a thousand needles and he felt his blood soak the back of his stiff gray uniform. Biting his lip he turned and sent waves of raw energy towards them. Landing lightly on a rooftop he stared down at the three girls. Sailor Mars met his gaze fearlessly, her amethyst eyes raging with righteous anger and unleashed wrath. Where was his princess? Did she exist under that cold shell Mars wore in battle? Did she exist at all anymore? 'My princess...My firebird. My one and only. I'm sorry, more sorry than mere words alone can describe. You suffered as a child, in the horrible place you and your brother called home and I caused you even more pain when I betrayed you, though I had no choice, it still cuts like a knife to know that you shed tears because of me. Is that why in all these months of battling you in the here and now I've never seen a hint of a the tender and kind woman I held in my arms an eternity ago? Or is her voice so small no one can hear her?' *And she wonders where these dreams go, 'Cause the world got in her way, What's the point ever trying, Nothing's changing anyway...* Rei clenched her fists tightly as she met Jadeite's darkly brooding azure gaze. She couldn't let him see her weakness. The thing that she kept hidden, sometimes even from herself, but always found herself inexplicably pondering whenever she was near him, Jadeite, Beryl's tool, Beryl's pawn. Her weakness was her lack of dreams. Deep in her heart Rei had always wondered if being a priestess was what she truly wanted, if that was all she was meant to be. Then she found out she was a Sailor Scout. It had made her feel so special, for the first time in her life, but it wasn't enough. Being a warrior was wonderful but if she didn't have anything to fight for what was the point? Sometimes it was if the world or even fate, if there was such a thing, was against her. Serena had her family. Ami had her mother and with her brains could be anything she wanted. Rei had nobody but her grandfather and that didn't count. She loved him but couldn't depend on him. So she had learned to stand on her own but a building without supports soon fell and whenever she met Jadeite's inquisitive sapphire gaze she felt herself start to crumble. Damn that man that could make her question herself like no one ever before. It infuriated her. Still locking gazes with him she saw Serena making a small movement out of the corner of one violet eye. Desparately she tried to hold his gaze just a little longer...but he saw Sailor Moon throw her tiara at the last second and turned to deflect it. Rei gasped at the opening glaring boldly at her. One fire sniper to his undefended side and it would be over. But why was she hesitating? This was the *enemy*! Shoving down these strange emotions Rei closed her violet eyes and summoned the power of Mars. With a fierce battle cry she sent her fire coursing towards Jadeite, refusing to let herself wonder at the pain that she felt deep inside at her actions... *They press their lips against you, And you love the lies they say, And I tried so hard to reach you, But you're falling anyway...* Jadeite screamed as searing heat burned along his side. Staggering to his knees he barely registered Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury's shocked expressions as his hungry eyes fastened on his love. She stood still, looking pained, her arms laying limp at her sides and he felt a flutter of joy at the tears he could see gathering there in the light cast off by the dying flames. She felt pain for hurting him. No recognition graced her features though, no sign of rememberance. He fell silently to his stomach, one arm outstretched as he struggled to capture her vision and seal it in his heart, to touch her raven hair one last time. Her etheral beauty began to fade as black slowly began to overtake his sight and he was only half aware of the intense, fiery pain that coursed through his dying body. Cracked lips parted open. "Rei...I've loved you since the dawn of time and I will love you for the rest of creation and I'm sorry that it had to be this way. Perhaps we'll get another chance, another lifetime, but in this one worlds kept us apart. I was evil and you, my beautiful goddess were good." He blinked and bent his head, letting his fevered forehead rest against the cool cement of the building's roof. He looked up once more, fingers stretching out still. "Rei? Rei, where are you?" He writhed as she began to swim and disappear, as if she was falling away from his world of darkness into a tunnel of brightest light. "Mars don't leave me!" The last was an agonized cry that rang out like the previous whispers did not. He coughed weakly and barely noticed that vermilion blood lay where he had coughed. He sighed and fell back against the concrete again. He was tired...so so tired... The last thing he saw was an angel dressed in flowing ruby red, ebony hair swirling enchantingly around her as she took him in her amrs and led him to peace. "My princess, you've come at last..." As he murmured those last words a sweet smile fell across his face and for the first time in a thousand years General Jadeite rested. *And you know I see right through you, When the world gets in your way, What's the point in all the screaming, You're not listening anyway.* The three scouts looked at each other in surprise. Finally Rei mustered enough courage to leap to the roof and warily approach their enemy. He was still, even his broad chest wasn't rising and she felt slightly ill at the thought. Hesitantly Ami and Serena joined her. Walking forward until she was next to him she knelt and felt for a pulse gently on his neck. His blood was still as well. There was no life in him. Feeling oddly saddened by this Rei bowed her head and muttered a soft prayer for his soul before closing his beautiful blue eyes forever. Rising she turned back to Serena and Ami. Serena started to comfort her but stopped herself. "Rei, are you all right?" Rei bit her lip, considering the question. "I will be, in a minute, that's all. I just felt something now, like I should remember something but don't quite dare..." Seeing her friend's worried gazes she smiled brightly. "Don't be upset, it's nothing I'm sure. Come on let's get home before sunrise..." Nodding in agreement the three grils linked arms and walked away, sobered by what had transpired tonight. And Rei never looked back even though a small voice inside her heart whispered for her to with all her might but she shrugged it away. This world was not the time or place for fantasies or might have beens. She had a job to do, a future to create, and dreams to find. On the building's rooftop the lifeless body withered and shrank until it was nothing but fine gray dust. A wind danced, lifting the dust in a whirling ballet with a flurry of ruby leaves. Swirling together, held by the fickle winds of fate, the leaves and dust continued their ballet through the city, the universe, until the end of time. Meeting, parting, yet always finding each other if only for the briefest of reunions. Author's Notes: Well *that* was interesting. I'm not entirely sure where that story came from. I listened to the song and had the idea write a Jadeite/Rei fic but that just kinda, for lack of a better phrase, popped out of my brain.LOL Let me know if you like it, if you don't, whatever. I'm off to try to write some more of my story that ya'll have been reading up until now. Put this in with the last chapter of Rei: First Love cause it was kinda short and as an added bonus for all you Rei fans. Neway have a great week, email, email, email!
