Dinoworld takes place in the future, a time when Earth is no longer inhabitable. The bases on the Moon and Mars Colonies would not last for more than two more generations. Expeditions were sent out to worlds which could already be inhabitable, or that could be made to be inhabitable. Dinoworld was among those which could be colonized immediately. But it was not to be a mass migration to the world, as other planets with better resources were discovered and called in before. Nonetheless, the world was colonized and those in charge of the Council pretty much viewed the world as a big tourist attraction.

With no true guidance as to create a governing system, Dr. Mark Lewen (the scientist who announced the discovery) set out to make a system of Rangers to patrol various areas. With no advanced weapons or decent training, they trained themselves and separated into groups: Forest Rangers, City Rangers, Desert Rangers and Island Rangers, depending on the type of environment. Eventually, various squads were produced. The most proficient were the Falconers, who trained small pterosaurs to carry out various tasks or to make small deliveries quickly.

Dinoworld also made way for the Explorers, brave men and women who charted the unexplored continents and land masses of the planet. For several years, new reports and discoveries were made on a daily basis. Though most stayed on the main continent with the colonies, some of the more daring chose to explore the deeper mysteries. A great risk, but with great rewards for those who follow through.

Outside of the main continent, some of the settlers broke off to form their own society. Believing that advancing technology was to blame for the downfall of Earth, these settlers chose to abandon technology and live simpler lives. A pact was made for them to live as they choose, and neither party would be allowed to ridicule the other.

But as more and more discoveries of fantastic creatures were made, some settlers saw a greater profit to be made. The Poachers hide what they do as best they can. Selling skeletons, skins and stuffed specimens, people are willing to pay greatly for what they offer. But it is a risky business. The Rangers are at constant odds with the Poachers. Many are caught and must pay the price, but some survive long on their own and can buy and sell as they please.
