TASK ONE: CASTING THE PLAY
"Who is it that can tell me who I am?"
Take a few minutes to look over the fifteen various depictions of Othello below.  They are from different productions and different moments in the play.  Give thought to our class discussions and your own knowledge of the play and of the character himself, and decide which best fits your view of how Othello should look.

Before going further, consider these questions and take another look at the pictures above:
1.  What are the qualities you think a director should look for when casting the part of Othello?
2.  How important is race in casting the part of Othello?
3.  What are some of the decisions the directors made in the above casting choices?
Now, e-mail to me your 1 page response explaining which of the above photos, 1 - 15, best matches how you envision Othello and explain why.  Also, for sixteen, nominate an actor you know of who would even better be able to convey your vision of Othello and explain your choice, including at least two lines from the play as justification for your ideas.
