In 1973, the volcano occupying the Icelandic island of Heimaey erupted. The local townspeople, given their determined nature, were not about to let a tempermental volcano drive them from their home. A heroic battle ensued and the town and its people are still there as living proof that Icelanders are indeed a unique breed! (See photo below) |
