Portsmouth, the county seat of Scioto Co., is located at the confluence of the Scioto River and the Ohio River, 90 miles (145 km) south of Columbus, Ohio's capital. Portsmouth was settled in 1803, incorporated as a city in 1814, and granted a charter in 1815; however, many of its earliest settlers predate its incorporation by several decades. Population 1990: 22,676. Other locations in our county include: Wheelersburg, South Webster, Rarden, Buena Vista, Minford, Sciotoville, Lucasville, New Boston, Rosemount and Friendship. |
