PHL
Ok, you're probably wondering what in the hell the PHL is. Well it's the pit hocky league. For anybody that has lived in Lane Hall before this will make sense to you. Our rez has a giant room/dance floor/multi-purpose area, commonly known as the pit. In this pit my rez started a floor hockey league.
Teams consist of 3 people. Two people on the Floor playing while one guy subs. Both teams shoot on the same goalie, whom is a neutral party. This will make sense to anybody who has played half court basket-ball or road hockey before.
The idea was to keep track of everyone's goals and publish them on the web. This beacme too troublesome because there were 18 teams and everyone was scoring like crazy. So they just keep track of each teams wins and losses.
Not to appear particularly full of myself, but I want to keep track of our teams' progress through my website. Our team is called the Lane Sharks. On the team is me, Mark Fowkes, and JT Whyte. Me and mark formed the team and JT joined later.
Anyhow, I hope to have pics as the season progresses. The official site for the PHL can be found at: PHL Homepage
Game 1 september 21st
Our first game was the 21st of September. We lost 16-6. We got thumped. JT pulled his groin and had to sit out. Me and mark ended up on the floor for the full 30 mins. I guess the guys we were playing were full fledged hockey players. Mark actually thought we did better than he thought we were going to do. Although we lost 16-6, the next team lost 22-7, then the team after them lost 18-2 so we didn't feel as bad.
Game 2 september 24th
Game two. We were playing a team called team discovery channel. With a name like team discovery channel I thought we had it easy... but we didn't. They were vey fast, like cheetahs. They beat us to the ball every time. They were connecting on all their passes. As it turned out we could shoot the ball harder. JT bailed me and Mark out all night with blistering shots from the point. In the end it was close, so to speak. It was 12-12 with 7 mins to go, and them team discovery channel started lighting the lamp over and over. We eneded up losing 19-14.
Game 3 september 30th
At his point we had no wins and two losses. It looked good, we were playing the flaming shitbags. The flaming shitbags were statistically inferior to us. But that's theory and not in practice. We were playing an ok game and were losing 8-7 with 5 mins left in the game. All I have to say is that it's a pretty sad day when a shark losses to a flaming shitbag. But all of a sudden me and JT started connecting on all of our passes. Me and JT started scoring up a storm and were putting on a clinic. When the dust cleared it was 15-9 for us. We outscored them 8-1 in the last 5 mins. It's a good feeling when you realize that you don't have to score any more goals, that you just have to defend the lead that you have. With that we got our first win in the PHL. We are currently 1 win and 2 losses.
Game 4 October 4th
Well we lost agian, we're 1-3 now. I've come to a conclusion. When me and JT are on the floor our team scoring goes way up and our goals against goes way down. Me and JT can actually beat teams that we lose to. It was close last night at 15-11. Me and JT came on at the end but couldn't catch up. The team we played was quite good at connecting on their passes and liked the quick plays. They had us pinned down for a bit but just couldn't get the ball in the net to save their lives. We play agian Thursday at about 8:30-8:45 in the pit.
Game 5 October 7th
Well I'm not entirely sure what happened tonight. The team we were supposed to play couldn't play. In the game ahead of ours one of the teams couldn't play. The solution? Have us play the team that has no-one to play. So we did, except they didn't show up. So I think we get the win due to a no show, but as I said before, I'm not entirely sure. So I hope we're 2-3. Either way we screwed around for an hour though and got some practice in.
October 11th - 14th
There are no games this week. Too much confusion after Thanksgiving I guess. Anyhow, we got credit for a victory last week when the other team failed to show up. Yay. So we now have 2 wins and 3 losses. We are now tied for 9th place out of 18 teams.
Game 6 October 21st
We lost a heartbreaker tonight. We lost 16-15 in overtime against a team that I thought was going to be great competition. We were down 13-7 at one point. Me and JT pulled the team to a 15-13 lead. We were so beat that we could barely move by the end of it. The other team actually scored the winning goal from the other side of center with under 5 secs to go!. We went into OT where we quickly lost. blah.
Game 7 October 25th
There's a running theme going here. We lost again! But for the first time all three of us actually played well! Usually one of our teammates puts in a half-assed attempt to play. But he did a great job out there tonight. He watched the open man, ran (instead of walking), made good passes, and actually scored a goal, in fact two goals! The final score was 10-7, but the team we were playing was really good. They didn't let us breath the entire game.So kudos to them. We are now 2 wins and 5 losses.
Game 8 October 27th
We were schelduled to play the worst team in the league tonight. There was no question that we would win. I had class though and couldn't go. grrrr. It wasn't a class I could just miss either, I had to go. But our opponents didn't show up, so we won by default. Which doesn't bother me, but we could have beat these guys anyway. We now have 3 wins and 5 losses.
Game 9 November 1st
Well Mark didn't show up for the game, he had a paper to work on, so it was only me and JT with no sub. When the other team showed up we realized that they had only 2 guys. So it worked out well. I don't think we had possesion of the ball much more than the Capers, yet we won 20-9. Me and JT also came to a conclusion. I'm the set-up guy and he's the trigger man. No matter where I passed it from, nobody could stop it, and then JT would get the ball right on his stick and score the goal. Every time he got the ball he put it in the net. We now have 4 wins and 5 losses.
Game 10 November 1st
Well we had to play the bearded clams. They were pretty good. We hung in until near the end when they poped a few quick ones in. We put up a struggle but in the end they were just too good. Our record is now 4 wins and 6 losses.
Some F*cking A-hole stole our hockey net and play is suspended until it returns!
