Yay for Nova scotia

Altough some may debate this point. Nova Scotia is the best! Ask anyone who lives here and they will probably tell you that Nova Scotia is great. From Yarmouth, to Amherst, to Halifax, to Sydney most Nova scotians are proud people. (unless you live near the tarponds or westville :P) The province accomadates people of different ethnic background, mainly British and Acadian. Nova scotia has a rich planting area known as the Annapolis valley, thick forests of evergreens, and even highlands in Cape Breton which is abundent in wildlife and happens to be one of the largest nature preserves in Canada. Nova Scotia is also home of Alexander Keith's beer, which on it's own makes Nova Scotia cool.

Nova scotia at Vimy Ridge

Nova Scotia was also crucial during world war l, at Vimy Ridge in particular. Most canadians know about Vimy ridge in some way or another. This was a very important line of defense for the Germans and was thought to be an impenetrable fortress. If the allies were to gain this postition the Germans would then be in the fight of their lives.
The British and french both at different points in time had tried to take Vimy ridge... both failed, they even had tanks. The French alone suffered in excess of 150,000 caulties. The Canadians 30,000 strong were given the task to take the german line. In the beginning of April the canadians opened their attack. Canada had secured most of the Ridge using more advanced battle tatics than normal. This was accomplished by lanching shells than charging the enemy line afterwards, unlike the British and French who shelled as they charged killing a lot of their own men in the process. Although most of the ridge was secured, the Canadian regiment out of BC had been defeated by the Germans. The importance of this was that it was the last position left to be secured on the ridge. The Germans could now outflank the Canadians and possibly re-take the ridge. The Canadians had one last option... the 85th Nova Scotia Highlanders. The 85th Highlanders were designed as a workgroup, i.e they set up bridges and dug trenches. The 85th highlanders were armed and set out to battle. They charged the German trenches on the ridge. The Germans couldn't stop them. The highlanders had charged so fast and efficiently that the Germans retreated from the trenches and withdrew from battle... securing the canadian victory. Yay for Nova scotia

Farewell to Nova Scotia

Nova scotia also has a song written for it called "farewell to Nova scotia". The lyrics are here, I couldn't upload a version onto the website so you'll have to find it on your own. But here is a link to hear what it should sound like, sort off. Click here to hear

The sun was setting in the west
The birds were singing on ev'ry tree
All nature seemed inclined to rest
But still there was no rest for me

Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea-bound coast
Let your mountains dark and dreary be
And when I am far away on the briny oceans tossed
Will you ever heave a sigh and a wish for me?

I grieve to leave my native land
I grieve to leave my comrades all
And my aged parents whom I always held so dear
And the bonnie, bonnie lass that I do adore

The drums they do beat and the wars do alarm
The captain calls, we must obey
So farewell, farewell to Nova Scotia's charms
For it's early in the morning I am far, far away

I have three brothers and they are at rest
Their arms are folded on their breast
But a poor simple sailor just like me
Must be tossed and driven on the dark blue sea

But above all, Nova Scotia has a darn cool flag
