BEER!
Beer is natures sweetest drink. Most beers are quite refreshing, with the odd exception. Coffee and beer have one attribut in common... most people find them aquired tastes. Some people don't like their first coffee, but if you have coffee enough times then you start to develop a taste for coffee. The same holds true for beer.
I'm new to beer, any reccomendations?
If it's your first time trying beer, or you're relatively new to the drink then there are some things that you should be wary of.
Avoid Guninness as a first time drink. It's thick, it's black, and it's more like coffee than beer (well I guess guniness isn't exactly beer... but it's sold in the same section). This makes for an extrememly strong tasting drink that turns a lot of people off. Guninness is the next step for beer drinkers. And unless you're irish :P, guniness is often an aquired taste for some beer drinkers.
Avoid dark beers in general. Dark beers are not nearly as strong tasting as guniness but still might be overpowering for the first time beer drinker. Just like guniness these are for people who want the next step up from ordinary beer.
I personally would recommend starting with something domestic like Budweiser, blue, or keith's. These beer while not all the same type are standard issue beer that are not too light or not too dark. They don't have an overpowering taste but get you started down the beer trail. From here you can start your beer drinking career on the right foot.
But aren't really light colored beers good for first-timers?
These beers are only good if the objective to only to get drunk without tasting the beer. These really light beers, such as Corona and sol, lack any kind of taste whatsoever! Anybody who is actually interested or enjoys the taste of a good beer will never buy these!(unless they get a free drinking glass with purchase ;) )
What about Colt 45? It has more alcohol than normal beer
More alcohol in beer is not always a good thing. Colt 45 may have more alcohol, and be very cheap... but it tastes like crap. If you have this as your first beer you're missing the big picture, and this stuff could scar you for life. A lot of college students do buy this because it's $5 for 1.5L of 8% beer... but it tastes really rancid, and personally I'ld rather a beer that I enjoy the taste off... quality not quanity.
What about light beers?
I haven't had much expeience with light beers, except coors light and moosehead light. Light beers much like the light colored beers lack flavour. Beer companies today are trying to rectify this problem but I may never know if they do because I don't drink light beer. Light beer is generally low in carbs, calories, or both in an attempt to capture the atkins market, or people who are concerned about their weight. This is a beer you should try for the first time if you want to drink light beer, but it is decieving of the "normal" beer world.

Are international beers any good?
There are two schools on the thought. Those who will try them, and those who think they are pansy beers. personally, the international beers are good and happen to be my beers of choice. Like anything else there are good international beers and there are bad ones. The key is the region. Each region of the world seems to make beers similar to other brewers in the area, which does make sense. Germany, Denmark, Poland, and the Czech republic in my opinion make the best beers. These beers have a hearty tatste while not being too overpowering. The worst of the international beers are the British beers (except bass), these beers seem to be like coffee, thick with a bitter taste.
To the beer drinkers of the world i say that each beer is worth a try at least once... nothing ventured nothing gained.
