The Testimony

There's silence. Little crying. For
   A moment, God showed how
Ridiculous a corridor
   I walked in up to now.

Thus truly seeing this, I thought
   What God had given me:
He gave me life. He gave me naught
   That I could earn or see.

And yet a stubborn rascal then
   Was I, and started to
Protest. "Why me, Lord? And since when
   Do you see me so true?"

O ignorance and folly! Leave
   Them both behind you. Fear
The Lord; wisdom will follow. Cleave
   To what is good. Revere

The Lord your God and praise His name;
   Yes, praise His holy name!
Laud Jesus Christ, the one who came
   To save us from our shame.

And then we look with eager eyes
   For God's great Judgment Day
And Christ will come again, through skies
   In mighty disarray.

We think of everlasting years,
   Spent with the Lord on high,
And think, "The world has not the ears
   To hear our Savior's cry;

To hear the preacher's homily
   And turn from evil ways."
Praise God for making us to be
   The doers all our days.
