The students are in the process of completing personal stories. In order to decide what topic they would write about, the children met with each other in small groups to discuss events, problems, and goals that they have experienced in their lives. After discussing the topic, the students began writing introductory paragraphs to clearly begin their story and grab a reader's attention. Since the students are writing about something that has happened to them, they are able to add detail because they know so much about the topic. The students have been encouraged to type their stories. Some can type at school, and if they bring a disk to class with them, they can also work on their typing at home. |
