About Me

Saga Frontier

System: Playstation Date: 1997

This was the 7th installment of the Saga series

Graphics: This game has pre rendered backgrounds just like the FF games for Playstation. But while the FF game's had polygon characters and enemies this game has standard 20 sprites which tend to clash a bit with the backgrounds. The spell animations are solid but nothing mind blowing.

SCORE: 6

Music: I never notice the music to be either good or bad, it was just plain and in the background.

SCORE: 5

Story: This game is broken into 7 different quests each with there own stories. Some of the quests have fairly good story lines but on average the quest stories were weak.

SCORE: 3.5+

Gameplay: As in all the Saga games your party can consist of robots, monster, humans and demi-humans thus making for many combinations of parties. Each race has there own weapons and abilities they can learn. Though the game is fairly non linear, still is a basic outline of a path you follow. While some paths are more forced than others. SCORE: 5.5+

Innovation: The non-linear game play (Kind of), the ability to save anywhere, 7 different quest all make for neat twist on the basic RPG formula. But alas theses game features have been explored in previous RPG's and Saga games, but still the combination and presentation are new

SCORE: 5+

Replay: This game has 7 quest that each can be completed in different ways with different types of party so I can see reason to go though again, yet they are weak reasons. SCORE: 3

Overall: This game is a solid but flawed effort.

SCORE: 6.5
