About Me

Phantasy Star 4

System: Genesis Date: 1995

The 4 installment of one of the 3 corner stones series in Role Playing Game history being the Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy line of games.

The others

Graphics: This game has some of the best visuals for the system. There are huge bosses that are well detailed. Though the Genesis was a dated system even compared the SNES, there are still great effects and greatly detailed worlds in this game.

SCORE: 9

Music: I have a hard time remembering the specifics of the music. The overall feel, I remember was of only an about average quality.

SCORE: 6

Story: This game has an epic story line crossing planets and the universe. While many other RPG's of the time were still all cute and funny this game is about characters dealing with death and the fate of their world in a serious manner, because of this story really pulls you in. The story is augmented by the great characters each dealing with there own problems.

SCORE: 9

Gameplay: This game has a 5 party battle system, which is fun for a change from the 3 or 4 member parties normally seen is RPGs. Though the abilities and item selection are nothing revolutionary the game play is tight and fun to play.

SCORE: 8

Innovation: While Phantasy Star 4 has no specific advancements or new features to speak of, the entire package as a whole moves RPGs to a higher level, this is Sega's Final Fantasy 6.

SCORE: 6

Replay: This game has many secrets and items to find thus offering reason to play though again.

SCORE: 5.5

Overall: A top notch RPG

SCORE: 8
