Final Fantasy 6 System: SNES Date: 1994 This game came out as 3 in the U.S though when Final Fantasy Anthology came out for the Playstation the correct number (6) was use. Graphics: This game has some of the best visuals for the SNES ever. The world of Final Fantasy 6 is beautiful drawn with such detail not seen in RPG's before hand. Each spell and every monster, even the most basic is well drawn. At the time the mode 7 use in this game was top notch. SCORE: 9+ Music: The upward curve of the music in the Final Fantasy Trilogy for SNES reaches its peak in this game. This games sound track is the zenith of the entire RPG genre. While some games come close to the amount of top tracks found in this game none can top it. There are so many memorable tracks it is hard to point to a "best track". This games music is really the benchmark for RPG in the future to pass. SCORE: 10 Story: While previous RPGs explored character depth and grand story lines they to not come close to Final Fantasy 6. FF6 easily has the best story and characters of the Final Fantasy series and every other game out there save perhaps Chrono Trigger, which this still best. There are 14 Characters in this game (most in any FF) each one is fleshed out with cut scenes and side quest. The main plot line is at first site the standard villain wants to destroy everything, but it is executed in such a manner it is just about perfect. Also of mention here is the villain Kefka who is easily won of the best in RPG history. SCORE: 10 Gameplay: Final Fantasy 6's game play may not break any new ground but it is executed in such a fun way, who cares! There are 14 characters that each has there own unique moves and abilities. Add to that the tremendous amount of magic that can be learned, and the weapons/armor that can be obtain and you got a lot of exploring to do. Also leveling up in this game can be quite fun because of the powers you can obtain via the Espers. Note: The system in this game is called the "accessory system". SCORE: 9+ Innovation: While the game play may not break the new ground for is originality (not to say its not original it just that compare to FF5...) The Storyline and music are ground breaking in their greatness. Never before has an RPG had such a superb mix of everything. SCORE: 9.5 Replay: Because of the very fun nature of the game play and the vast... vast amount of secrets and side quest you have plenty of reason to play this baby though again. Just the sheer awesomeness of the game warrants that. SCORE: 9.5+ Overall: The best Final Fantasy game and one of the best if not thee best RPG ever made. SCORE: 10 |
