Final Fantasy 5

System: SNES

Date: 1992

This game for many years was not out in the U.S and had to be played via emulator. In 1999 it came out for Playstation it's first official U.S release. This was the Final Fantasy that brought us the now infamous Job System.

Graphics: The visual in this game really seem to be the bridge between Final Fantasy 4 and 6. As such the monsters are well drawn, as are the towns. The general look of the game is beyond FF4 in every manner.

SCORE: 7.5

Music: This game continues the large upward curve started in FF4. There are many tracks that are of the utmost quality. Such basic tracks like the town themes are very pleasant on the ears. Many tracks in this game are some of the finest of the Final Fantasy's'.

SCORE: 9

Story: The story is a disaster, the storyline is bland and cliché. The main villain is one of if not thee worst villain of the Final Fantasy series. The characters are poorly flesh out and very uninteresting. Every thing involving characters of any kind is bad, With the exception of Gilgamesh; one of the greatest comedy relief characters there is or ever was. SCORE: 4

Gameplay: Some say this game has the best "system" of any of the Final Fantasy's, well that is hard to argue and I won't try now. Limited job systems seen in earlier Final Fantasy's and other RPGs are far surpassed by what is in this game. While earlier games had maybe up to 8 or so "jobs" or "classes" you could be, this game has over 20! The Depth and customizability of this system is hard to match. And do to the fact that you get jobs gradually as you progress though the game, it makes beating the "big dungeons" a blast. Instead of getting some lame weapon that you'll sell in another hour or so you get something that will last you the rest of the game. Overall just a brilliant system.

SCORE: 9.5+

Innovation: The great game system is easily one of the greatest innovation of any RPG. The job system is just an RPG landmark. Other things of note here are the great music which best almost all RPG's before it.

SCORE: 9.5

Replay: There are many side quest and secrets through out the game thus there is some replay due to that. Also the depth of the job system and its ability to be customized make for excellent replay opportunities. Though these features make for a high replay value the weak story slightly

Diminishes the high score because you won't want to hear the dull conversations again SCORE: 9

Overall: This is one of the best RPGs out there and a highlight of the amazing Final Fantasy series.

SCORE: 9+
