The East Coast Rescue has, as its primary goal, the placement of homeless Keeshonds in new and permanent homes. We refer to such homes as "forever" homes. We are here to help the dogs. People come second.
East Coast Rescue is an entirely volunteer organization. There are no offices, and there are no salaried employees. All time and services are donated. Like similar organizations, we're always in need of new people with a commitment to helping Keeshonds. If that sounds like you, please contact us at: [email protected]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are a single group made up of keeshond lovers.
Our goal is what is best for each individual dog, not what is necessarily best for people.
While we may, in rare cases, network with others across the country and move dogs long distances, we prefer dogs to stay close to where they are in foster care. This helps the dogs, you, and us. When considering any rescue dog, please start as close to your home as possible.
Adopting a Keeshond is not simply saying I'll take THAT one. You must fill out a detailed application and provide references. The application and references will be checked. This might take a week or so since we are all volunteers and perform rescue tasks in our "spare time". There is also a suggested donation to rescue. Most individuals and groups suggest $150. In general, donations are NOT refundable.
When you get your rescue dog, you will be required to sign a legally binding contract, that among other things, states that if you can no longer care for your rescue dog you MUST return the dog to East Coast Rescue. You can not abandon the dog without legal consequences nor can you give the dog to a pound, humane society, or any other person.
The care of rescue dogs sometimes poses questions and problems beyond your experience. We offer advice and support for all our placed dogs for their entire lives. Support is provided via direct contact. Our club has keeshond activities throughout the year such as grooming clinics, agility workshops and dog walks. We have a lot of experience with keeshonds in our club and can answer and help you through most any difficulty. But, you have to be willing to put time, effort and training into it with patience towards your keeshond.
Applications vary among different rescuers. While our goal is have the forms available here online, we're not quite at that point yet. You must submit an application as the first step.
All final adoption decisions are made by the individual fostering the dog. All decisions are final.
While we evaluate each dog to the best of our ability and experience, we can't make any promises or guarantees that the dog is free of health and personality problems. We will always tell you everything we know about each dog.
We are always short of foster homes. In some situations, we will list the availability of a dog that is not in the foster care of East Coast Rescue. Such dogs are neither evaluated nor can we vouch for their conditions (shots, heartworm, etc.). We will clearly indicate such dogs, and urge you to consider them, but take great care before adopting to determine as much as you can about the dog. We will help you via email or phone during that process, if you ask for our help.
If you have any questions, ask first, rather than later.
Thank you!
