| The Wilmer City Council over the past two years alone has seen more activity and growth in Wilmer than ever before. This growth amounts to many new businesses, the new INTERMODAL RAILPORT FACILITY to be built in Wilmer this year, discussions and negotiations with many other businesses wanting to relocate in Wilmer as a result of the other new growth, exhaustive discussions with new home builders, and the list goes on. Here is the list so far: * 12 NEW BUSINESSES LOCATING IN AND AROUND WILMER * A $100 MILLION INTERMODAL FACILITY * 7000 ACRES OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE PLANNING STAGES NOW * $20 MILLION/YEAR ESTIMATED PROPERTY AND INVENTORY TAX BASE COMING * APPROXIMATELY 10,000 JOBS AS A RESULT OF THE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT * CONTINUING TO BALANCE THE ANNUAL BUDGET WITHOUT CUTTING JOBS * PAID OFF ALL OF THE I.R.S. PAYROLL TAX DEBT * PAID OFF ALL OF THE STATE COMPTROLLER DEBT * CUT SPENDING WITHOUT CUTTING JOBS * FINDING NEW WAYS TO BRING IN NEW REVENUE, JOBS AND TAX BASE * NEGOTIATING NEW RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT WITH NEW HOMES * CONTINUING TO FIND NEW WAYS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE Now, this is the start of the 5-10 year plan for WIlmer, a plan that Don Hudson, Billy Wickliffe, Eugene Lowe and Tiny Lange have been working on during the past two years, and for a few of them, many years longer. This has been a passion for many of the people in Wilmer and these Council Members have known this and strived for it. Now, it is coming and we are ready. |
