Interview with Passaro!
Monday 8th July - 4 days before what seems to be the biggest Jaffa Challenge ever, and I managed to catch up with one of the major title contenders Bertie "The Italian Stallion" Passaro, and he was kind enough to give this website, the Official Jaffa Cake Eating Competition website, the chance to interview him. And here's how it went:
Chris: Hello Bertie. Thanks a lot for letting us do this interview - So... big match coming up on Friday, it'll be tough as a Jaffa virgin, any nerves?

Bertie: Well, no... true legends like myself don't get nervous as we have faith in our ability.

Chris: But how can you be a true legend in the Jaffa World without even playing a match?

Bertie: Im a legend because I've been secretly training very hard. I mean 65 is nothing. What sort of a record is that?! Now if someone got over 100 I'd be impressed but 65 is poor.

Chris: So had do you rate your chances for Fridays Contest?

Bertie: Better than average. I mean, if people like Mo Das and Lawrence Mark can be Jaffa King and win the title, I can definately win it.

Chris: Right, what do you think about your opponents - highly rated ones like The King himself and "The Belly from Delhi?"

Bertie: Well firstly Mark, he is definately overrated by people who don't even know what they're talking about. Who do they think they are?! And Das - he doesn't scare one bit. In his previous contests he's had easy opponents in the form of Tang and some girl! Das is crap and too old, he no longer has the stomach for it.

Chris: And Tommy B, and Brant, the other Jaffa virgins?

Bertie: No chance. I don't even wanna waste my breath talking about 'em.

Chris: Fair enough! OK, there have been many fans in the Jaffa World who have said you are a dead cert for the title, but others are a bit more sceptical and think that you don't have what it takes to claim the crown, what would you say to those fans?

Bertie: Well, firstly the fans who say I'm a dead cert, they're the right fans, they know what they're talking about. But for the other fans, how do they know that?! They've never seen me eat before! And come Friday I'll show them how its done.

Chris: Right, bit of a random question here, Jaffa Cake - Cake or Biscuit?

Bertie: Cake, dunno why, just definately isn't a biscuit, no crunch.

Chris: And to end the interview, a special guest has submitted a question to ask you. . .

Berite: Oh yeh. . .

Chris: Mo Das, former Jaffa King and competitor in the match this Friday asks: "How will you feel when you lose to Jaffa King Mo this Friday?"

Bertie: It won't happen and he ain't the Jaffa King no more because he lost to that bum Lawrie Mark. My advice to Das is to retire now while he has the chance, and step-a-side! My name will be on that plaque come Friday night! And what sort of a nickname is "The Belly from Delhi?" In my books "Foreign = Inferior" - Don't argue with science!

Chris: Thanks Bertie for that very interesting interview, and good luck for Friday.

Bertie: Cheers man.
