| The Archers is a long-running (52 years) radio soap opera about a fictional rural English village. I've been listening for ten years now. It's my only soap indulgence. Back in November 2000, I guess it must have been, I discovered online Archers fandom, through the medium of the BBC's official message boards. One of these is devoted to Archers fanfic (usually parodies or silly pastiches). I've written quite a bit for them over the past couple of years, and some of them are preserved on the website. They are below. It's also in this fandom that the name "Swiss Tony" was first acquired (see here for the full story). All the characters are copyrighted to someone else, of course. |

| Scorchio! - How The Fast Show's Chanel 9 would broadcast The Archers. The Battle of Glebelands - A Stanley Holloway pastiche, and IMHO one of the funniest things I've ever written (but you need to know the original material to get most of the jokes, and to be part of BBC Archers fandom to get all of them). The Blue Death - The Archers meets Dr Who (Pertwee era, UNIT). A nine-part epic. Apparently linked to by Dr Who websites now. In a tale eerily reminiscent of what happened to a lot of real Dr Who episodes, there was a chunk of the story (including some vital plot information) that went missing - but it's now been restored. Oliver's Army - 24 episodes. Espionage story, based on Callan (someone eventually admitted they'd spotted it!) The Mask of Tsetse Bumba - Another Dr Who story, this time featuring the Tom Baker Doctor of the 'gothic horror' period. Still in progress. In The Midsummer Sun - A one-off piece, drawing on The Wicker Man. This was runner-up in the Midsummer Competition on the Message Boards. |
